An exciting opportunity in a high growth online retail company at our headquarters in Ottawa.

Reporting to the Controller and Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant will be an integral part of the finance team. By overseeing and reviewing daily functions, and playing a large role in the month end close process, the Senior Accountant will bring efficiency and increased structure to our finance team. In a multi-entity environment the Senior Accountant will take ownership of assigned entities’ financial statement preparation and analysis, and be a key “go to” for variance analysis and understanding.

Job description and responsibilities

  • Assist with the completion of the month-end reporting process
  • Assist with variance analysis from budget and prior periods
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and schedules or analyses for balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis
  • Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Strive to improve processes for efficiency, as well as stronger internal controls
  • Strive to mentor, guide, and support to junior staff
  • Create a team environment that ensures our team feels proud of the quality of our work; takes full accountability, and celebrates our successes
  • Complete other projects as assigned

Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years in progressive accounting experience and at least 1 year in multi-entities & multi-currencies environment
  • Proven ability to produce accurate, timely and reliable monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. Constantly striving to improve performance
  • Experience with large/complex bank reconciliations is a MUST
  • Experience in using MS-Office applications, especially MS-Excel (Intermediate to Advanced, as there are large volumes of data)
  • Experience in retail industry preferred


  • Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) required.

Salary Range
$40,000 - $50,000
