Materials Manager (Former Employee), Calgary, ABOctober 1, 2014
Pros: training
Cons: 70 work for 40 hours pay, very unethical
They try to manage with an iron fist and promote people before they are close to being ready. They have a good game plan at the beginning of the job but everything soon falls apart and the blame game begins.

Are you family or friend? If not it's not worth the time to make a bit of money
Electrician (Former Employee), Marystown, NLOctober 1, 2014
Pros: home in marystown
Cons: management
I have worked for Kiewit multiple times before and they remain the same to this day if not possibly getting worse. They treat employees like they are runnin a day care. The company is full of hot heads. The latest job was in 2012 at the KOS facility in NL. All about who you know determines if you get a job and advance in your career. Qualifications – more... and experience mean nothing to them. The safety program is a real concern when you have un-qualified personnel doing the job. They posted an expression of interest in November 2013 looking for electricians. I applied and was told early in the new year. Kept checking back on a monthly or less then monthly basis and was being told next month. By the time mid July came 2014 I finally got an appointment booked for a pre access screening which was a 300 + km trip. Well it's now October 2014 and the latest I was told before I told them to shove it was the new year again. I guess when they get all friends and family hired they will call the no body's. The worst part of this situation is I never wanted to apply for a fly in fly out camp job because I was at home raising my kids and waiting a call from KOS. But I had received an offer that I had turned down in fear of having to quit to come home with my kids and work here like I deserve to be. They really left me high and dry on this one. As of now my ties are cut. Sorry you just lost a professional. The company only signs your pay check. Management in myst gotta be fixed.
Thanks KOS for leaving me high and dry!!! – less

When I needed them the most they were not there.
Ironworker/Welder (Former Employee), BCSeptember 16, 2014
Pros: not many come to mind.
Cons: stabbed me in the back when i needed them.
Worked for them this year on a project in British Columbia, I got hurt on the job. Everything was fine, management acted like they were behind me until I filed for compensation through WCB, I later found out they disputed my injury. They went as far as contacting WCB to tell them that they believed I was hurt that morning and that I wasn't feeling well(which – more... was entirely made up)

Would NEVER work for Kiewitt or any CLAC affiliation ever again. – less

No loyalty to workers
Mechanic (Former Employee), Kearl lakeJune 22, 2014
Pros: free flights /camp
Cons: upper management
Had worked there since 2012 , I had opted out of going to apprenticeship training for fear of being laid off . After a discussion with the apprenticeship board I had agreed to do my training . Once I had flown back to work I showed up for an hour and was told I was not being hired back . They said there was a glitch in there system and sent me home – more... on a flight that day . Considering I'm a mechanic and have to supply my own tools you think if they had no intentions of bringing me back they would have sent my tools back with me . Overall anyone above your forman will treat as a number . I've never worked with a company what demands so much integrity from there workers but gives none in return . – less

Pros: decent pay, when they didnt mess it up
Cons: having to do things the hard way, not doing things the right way the first time. they like to play, games
We are treated like we're just a number. The management is the big problem with this place. Management has a hard time not letting the power they have go to thier heads. If youre hard up for a job than this is the place to go for a filler job. This place is no good for your mental health. Everything you ever learned any where else does not apply here. – more... This is a good place to work if you know nothing about the industry and are just starting out in your career. – less

Safety is a never ending topic at Kiewit. They care about their people and invest in you. About 66% of your life is lived surrounded by people from your company, as you live at a camp for some remote work. Everyone is driven to excel in their job, enforcing a positive working environment. Management is more secluded from their people, as the opportunities – more... in Kiewit tend to be larger scale projects. – less

Mod yard management is horrible!
Fitter (Former Employee), Sherwood Park, ABApril 1, 2014
Pros: home every night
Cons: upper management in yard
Only way to get ahead is kiss a$& in office. They didn't like when people spoke up and spoke there mind. Management would say one thing do another. Throw you under the bus any chance they got! Was a good place to work at first and went to complete sh.t past 6 months
