The Event Planner is responsible for planning, facilitating and supporting events that showcase diversity, older adults, and Kerby Centre. Events may be fun, educational, or cultural. The Event Planner takes the lead role in planning, obtaining funding, facilitating and evaluating events.
Duties and responsibilities
1.Sit on the Event Planning Committee which does long range planning. Follow up or implements decisions of the committee.
2.Chair all event committees. Take minutes or ensure they are taken. Ensure tasks are assigned and followed through for the goal of successful events every time.
3.Develop new event ideas with the Kerby Team
4.Seek funding opportunities and sponsorships in coordination with the Fund Development department and Kerby News Sales.
5.Oversee all aspects of events including conception, planning, staffing, entertainment, room bookings, promotion and marketing, volunteer requirements, food, set up and tear down, budgeting and evaluation.
6.Maintain a list of event resources including entertainment, room layout and table setting plans, party supply companies and display companies.
7.Work with the Managers of Wellness, Education & Recreation and Information Resources to coordinate and promote presentations.
8.Support promotion and marketing endeavors for the agency at the direction of the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications. This includes coordinating internal advertising such as posters, table talkers, bulletin boards, Kerby News ads and digital signage.
9.Work on fundraising events including (but not limited to) the Kerby Golf Tournament, the Calgary Marathon and the My Generation Speakers Series.
10.Track booths and presentations done in the community by Kerby staff. Arrange for promotional booths at malls and events.
11.Work with the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications to ensure observation of special weeks and days including Seniors Week, Active Ageing Week, National Seniors Day, Alzheimers’ Coffee Break, World Elder Abuse Day etc.
12.Participate as a member of the Expo planning team.

- Post secondary education. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Work as a team within Kerby Centre and with all agency and community partners.
- Display good organizational and problem solving skills.
- Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, email, internet and MS Publisher.
- Able to work independently and display initiative.
- Professional in all interactions and relationships.
- Communicate positively, have calm manner.
Work is generally in an office environment but Event Planner activities include setting up events and travelling into the community. Work day is 8:00 – 4:00 or 8:30 – 4:30 Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required for events outside normal work hours.
Work may be physically demanding for short periods when setting up events.

Starting salary is $41,320
