We are seeking a Unix Administrator for a public sector client for a two year contract.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

The Unix Administrator will provide hands-on IT infrastructure support for the corporate datacentersThe Unix Administrator should have specific expertise in planning, designing, developing, and implementing efficient information systems and operations systems in support of core organizational functionsThe role requires systems administration for production, test, and development platforms including planning, coordination and execution of initiatives

Role is responsible for the following phases of ITIL - delivery, and operational support of the environment and may be called upon for guidance in designThis individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve systems issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments, as well as a strong work ethic and customer service focus

  • Participate in the Midrange Team on-call rotation.
  • IBM AIX and Red Hat LINUX Systems administration, configuration, tuning, patch administration
  • Troubleshooting performance issues
  • IBM Hardware install and upgrades
  • Performing daily, weekly and monthly monitoring and maintenance tasks
  • The position reports to the Supervisor Server Operations, as part of Information Technology and Security Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related discipline
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a Unix Administrator
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with IBM AIX Virtualization and LPARs preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with IBM SAN hardware preferred
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years business experience associated with functional support areas and understanding of IT Infrastructure and associated business processes
  • Monitoring and analyzing process/file system usage and performance indicators
  • Monitoring and analyzing file system/disk usage growth patterns, make recommendations, and implement required changes
  • Generating technical documentation and runbooks
  • Ability to analyze day-to-day functions and processes of operating systems, application software and database resources to ensure they are performing within predetermined guidelines, limits, and specifications
  • Ability to identify and resolve operating system issues in order to maintain services, enhance capabilities, and prevent system outages
  • Ability to plan, implement and maintain Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Support server environments for Oracle databases and SAP
  • Ability to prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization
  • Familiar with de-duplication strategies and products
  • Generating technical documentation
  • Experience with one or more of the following is a desired: IBM AIX, Red Hat Linux, High Availability, VMware, Apache, Tomcat, Oracle
  • Experience supporting IBM pSeries
  • Knowledge of UNIX Shell programming a plus
  • Previous experience scheduling/prioritizing work and projects
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Excellent solution solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Willingness to carry a cell phone for after business hours and weekend support – rotational 24/7
  • Willingness to travel 5 – 10%
  • LPIC certification a plus
