Typical Day
Library Clerk (Former Employee), Davenport, IA – November 24, 2012
Work started at 8am.
Came in, turned on the lights.
Made coffee.
Put the days newspapers out.
Put yesterday's newspaper in the back room.
Signed in the computer and looked to see if there were any orders in to mail out to other libraries.
Helped students find books, with papers, finding information online, etc.
Type up things my manager would want.

Medical Assistant Extern (Current Employee), Hammond, IN – November 9, 2012
Pros: learning new things
Cons: not enough hours
I learned a lot and got very good on the job training. They also let me try new projects to expand what I knew.

The management team is great. They are very friendly and helpful. They give good constructive criticism.

I would clock in and go about what needed to be done that day. If i needed assistance there was always someone there to help in any – more... way. – less

An empire in decline
Manager (Former Employee), Fort Lauderdale, FL – November 6, 2012
Pros: it's a job.
Cons: the culture needs improvement.
Kaplan has tremendous potential and some very intelligent individuals. However, the company operates with deep silos that are be inefficient and counter productive. The current culture needs improvement - politics are brutal.

Stressful environment
Military Admissions Advisor (Former Employee), Orlando, FL – November 6, 2012
Pros: competitive compensation and great benefits package
Cons: stressful environment with little control over personal results
Stressful environment that was ever-changing. Goals were out of balance with reasonable expectations for the product, price, time frame, and quality of leads provided to most advisors. Training was frequent and adequate. Co-workers were great people. Management sometimes lacked the ability to understand the challenges faced by the employees. The best – more... part of the job was knowing that you were helping others to pursue their education which could lead to a better future. At the end of the day you were satisfied with your efforts to help others realize their educational dream by giving them the best information so that they could make the right decision. – less

Management is not as proactive as I feel it should be when you have eager employees to expand their knowledge of both the company and the product. There is very limited opportunity for growth both developmentally and company wide. My co-workers are the reason I am still here. They are great people to work with and all are extremely intelligent and under-utilized.

The most difficult part of the job is knowing there really is no end goal. Again, development and future growth is so limited, it seems like there is no goal for you to work toward.

The most enjoyable part of the job is hearing back from a student that you helped them accomplish their goal(s). – less

Very Corporate and lacking diversity
Student Advisor (Former Employee), Davenport, IA – October 23, 2012
Pros: benefits, regular employee reviews
Cons: lacks job security and is still a questionable industry
Management is bottom line oriented. Therfore, many confusing trial policies and changes are implemented often among various campuses.

Resources often denied to selected students leaving some deprived of graduating. Not diverse in admissions dept., advising or management. Favortism plays a big part in advancment as well as daily operations.

Pros: i was able to finish a lot of homework.
Cons: not much to do.
This was an easy job. There really weren't many high demands. The management was effecient. The co-workers were pleasant. The hardest part of the job was not having much to do.
