SCOPE

The role of the Operations Jr. and Sr. Supervisor is to maximize production through safe and effective utilization of equipment and employees. The Sr. Supervisor has the overall accountability for decisions affecting the entire shift.

Essential Duties

-Plan, lead, and organizes the mine operations business unit through collaboration with the Operations Superintendent and Manager to provide a coordinated operation that consistently achieves targets;
-Review workforce demands to ensure a well balanced crew. Ensure requisitions are submitted to Human Resources and frequently discuss status of the crew with the Operations Manager;
-Ensure the workplace is conducive to a safe, healthy and environmentally secure operation;
-Ensure the daily plan is communicated and achieved;
-Ensure the effective and efficient utilization of equipment and personnel;
-Ensure the efficiency of production and the constant application of safe work practices;
-Have a solid understanding of safe operating procedures and communicate it down to the crew;
-Handle all safety incidents in a timely and organized manner. Ensure proper notes are taken and appropriate personnel are made aware depending on incident type;
-Respond to requests/concerns from the customer in a manner that supports a positive business relationship;
-Review and follow up on action items that result from site operations crew safety meetings and inspections;
-Spend time in the field monitoring and acknowledging safe work performance;
-Attend client meetings where necessary;
-Conduct field tours and identify constraints and take corrective action promptly;
-Administer employment policies and programs such as records of verbal discussion and performance improvement plans.

Qualifications

-Post secondary education with a technical concentration, preferably related to industrial work and or equivalent experience would be considered a strong asset;
-High School diploma
-Five or more years in a leadership position within the mining industry would be considered a strong asset;

Competencies and skills

  • Skillful in the use of computers and software including the Microsoft Suite;
  • Thorough knowledge of mining equipment, equipment performance, and the mining environment;
  • A strong attention to detail;
  • The ability to troubleshoot and anticipate future concerns;
  • Time Management and Prioritizing skills;
  • The ability to be flexible and responsive to changing demands;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
