Human Resources Generalist

Scope

Advise on the effective use of Human Resources to achieve organizational goals and objectives. In addition, providing advice to all levels of the organization regarding employee performance management, and administering other HR programs such as employee development, recruitment, retention, and succession planning.

Accountabilities

Human Resources Business Processes - Planning & Development
- Ensure processes are developed and followed
- Work with management to develop human resource strategies and programs
- Attend steering committee meetings & customer stewardship meetings when required

Recruitment
-Screen, review, and interview for staff & union based positions
- Assist in the onboarding process when required
- Provide feedback to hiring Manager and make recommendations on new hires

Labor Relations
- Investigate and solve labor relations issues and concerns
- Attend arbitration hearings if applicable
- Meet with Business Agents from the union and resolve issues
- Respond to grievances if filed
- Interpret and advise on articles of the collective agreement
- Assist in negotiating letters of agreement, collective agreements, & Project agreements

Compensation & Benefits System
- Assist in the ongoing development and administration of a comprehensive system
- Analyze compensation & make recommendation regarding pay evaluation
- Assist with yearly compensation reviews & adjustments

Training & Development
- Assist in the development of a leadership training program
- Facilitate in-house leadership training sessions from time to time

Labor Costing
- Participate in project bids and make recommendations on labor rates

Employee Relations
- Respond to management enquiries related to employees
- Advise & assist in the disciplinary hearings ensuring consistent application of discipline & fair treatment of employees

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of Employment Standards Code, Labor Relations Code, Human Rights legislation and the Canadian model for providing a safe workplace.
- The ability to deal with all levels of employees with tact and diplomacy
- Proficient with the Microsoft Suite

Education & Experience
- Undergraduate Degree - Post Secondary education in a human resource discipline or a related field of study
- 5 to 8 years of direct human resource experience
