Employment Settlement Specialist/Resource Area Coordinator
(Part-time contract position – 4 days per week – serving York Region)


  • Utilize assessment methods to determine client needs and assist in developing a Return to Work Action Plan
  • Provide clients with one-on-one job search coaching, community referrals and on-going employment support
  • Support and assist clients with resources, effective job search strategies, improving resume writing, interview techniques
  • Support clients on issues related to job searching and the ways and means of conducting an effective job search
  • Assess need for additional assistance such as language/skills training, settlement support, accreditation assistance, mentoring, family services support, housing support, rehabilitation, and makes appropriate referrals to those supports
  • Liaise with all Welcome Centre services and partner agencies, as well as Employment Ontario Employment Service providers, and other social, employment and community agencies on mutual clients, as needed, to facilitate progress
  • Monitor resource area activity: Assists clients in accessing e-mail, computers, internet, fax and photocopy equipment to support their job search
  • Provide support for clients working on their job search strategy in the resource area, providing guidance and suggestions as required
  • Support Welcome Centre Team through delivery of information sessions to Welcome Centre LINC clients
  • Greet clients using the Resource Area and ensures sign in


  • Post-secondary education in Career and Work Counselling, Social Services and/or 2 years’ equivalent Newcomer work related experience in Case Management/
  • Employment Counselling
  • Two years recent, related experience in employment, and/or providing job-search assistance
  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian labour market, Canadian workplace practices, job search strategies and techniques
  • Experience in working with people from various cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Vocational counselling experience with Internationally Trained individuals is considered an asset
  • Strong outreach, organizational, team work and communication skills
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications; Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Contact IV knowledge is considered an asset
  • All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population, have a valid Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Knowledge of and fluency in Russian, Punjabi, Hindi, Guajarati, Tamil, Urdu, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin is considered an asset to this position
