Responsibilities
Our client has created a new position in their company for a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join their team. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Director, Information Technology.

On a daily basis, you can expect to:

  • Build, implement and maintain maintenance plans
  • Undertake performance tuning
  • Maintain awareness of the Product goals and development strategies
  • Share experience and knowledge with colleagues
  • Continually monitoring and obsessing over mission critical servers to ensure 24/7 operations
  • Produce recommendations on new technologies and how our business can be operated more efficiently
  • Analyze and resolve issues, carefully manage risk and manage backup and restores

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing and managing the overall strategy of how we structure, maintain and analyze our Database systems and servers minimizing potential problems with servers and production databases by monitoring operations, resources and log files, ensuring file systems have the necessary space for proper functions
  • Plan upgrades or modifications, resolving issues with servers and production databases to ensuring functionality of production software
  • Provide service and support 24/7/365 as required, during exceptional circumstances, to maintain systems and service availability. This includes monitoring and responding to after-hours alerts sent through mobile devices, as well as responding to phone calls for support as situations require
  • Analyze bottlenecks of database systems, storage devices and networks to maximize database and application performance levels and storage capacity
  • Advise on the capacity requirements for data
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving urgent/critical incidents on production systems
  • Develop, enhance and follow tools and procedures used for checks and monitoring the status of the systems ensuring their integrity
  • Suggest new procedures to prevent or identify problem areas
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to Development to resolve production issues with databases or applications used in production when faults occur
  • Schedule regular maintenance to prevent problems and maintaining scheduled backups ensuring they are performed accurately
  • Extracting and manipulating data from various sources (e.g. SQL, MySQL, Access, etc.)
  • Developing reports and building query tools for data mining purposes and evaluations
  • Monitoring and addressing data quality and integrity issues
  • Maintaining and creating database documentation as needed
  • Operate and secure lower environments including UAT
  • Ensure that the policy and procedures of databases are followed

Qualifications

  • A minimum of seven years experience with DBA role
  • A minimum of five years experience with SQL server
  • University degree
  • Related Microsoft Certifications
  • Experience with SQL Server 2008 R2 / 2012 undertaking administration tasks
  • Transact SQL (TSQL)
  • SQL Server HA (High Availability)
  • Experience working with the following:

o SQL Server Replication, Database Mirroring and Logging
o SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
o Working knowledge of Windows and SQL Server Clustering
o New Database Administration / Installation
o Database security and monitoring
o Disaster Recovery (DR) | Business Continuity (BC)
o Data modeling and scripting
o Server and database security
o Developing Functionality and stored procedures
o Index Management and Optimization
o Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
o Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 / 2012

  • Advanced PC Skills, specializing in MS Access, MS Excel, Visual Basic, VBA, C++ and various Business Intelligence (BI) tools
  • Proven analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to multitask, prioritize with organizational and time management skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a team based environment
  • Previous work experience within an online retail website
  • Previous work experience within an retail grocery environment
  • Flexibility, reliability and the ability to meet departmental deadlines
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
