Job Description

Title: Instrumentation Engineer

Number of Openings: 1

Department: Project Department

Reports to: Project Manager, Managing Director

Location: Richmond, BC, up to 40% country-wide travel to project sites as required by project work load

Duration: A one or two year contract with intent to permanent

Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience; excellent health benefits package, RRSP

Work Hours: Full-time, 40 h/week

Responsibilities and Tasks
- Review the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery and components and electronic communications, instrumentation and control systems, equipment, and components
- Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for electrical and electronic systems and equipment
- Design electrical and electronic circuits, components, systems and equipment
- Supervise and inspect the installation, modification, testing and operation of electrical and electronic systems and equipment
- Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment
- Investigate electrical or electronic failures
- Supervise, in respect to instrumentation, technicians, technologists, and others on Iyinisiw projects
- Deliver completed instrument engineering designs in accordance with project specifications
- Ensure that the completed design falls within jurisdictional codes and specifications
- Develop instrument databases, piping and instrumentation diagrams, loop diagrams, installation details, shutdown and cause/effect drawings
- Coordinate with instrument and control contractors during construction and commissioning
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, define corrective actions and implement solutions
- Develop strong working relationships with vendors for technical support and resolution of problems
- Prepare relevant instrumentation documentation including calculations, data sheets, diagrams for wiring, etc. as well we piping and instrumentation diagram development, control narratives and logic diagrams as well as any other related technical literature
- Actively participate in the safety program of Iyinisiw
- Other tasks as related to Instrumentation as assigned during the course of business

Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in electrical or electronics engineering or in an appropriate related engineering discipline
- A master's or doctoral degree in a related engineering discipline is an asset
- Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers or equivalent is an asset
- A minimum of 7 years work experience as an Instrumentation Engineer, Senior Instrumentation Technologist or equivalent
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in instrumentation in the pulp and paper industry
- Excellent user skills in at least one 3D CAD software
- Proven ability to provide work leadership and technical direction to fellow engineers and technical support staff
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Valid safety certifications are considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license is an asset
