Position Title: Executive Director
The Intercultural Child and Family Centre (ICFC) was initiated by immigrant and refugee mothers from Eritrea and Ethiopia to address the unique early learning and care needs, as well as aspirations, of parents within the most vulnerable communities. Inherent in these intentions is the commitment to support immigrant and refugee community members in their entrance into, retention, and advancement within the early learning and care sector. On February 1, 2010 the Centre was opened with the support and funding of the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative.
The ICFC is an accredited non-profit centre that provides quality care for children and a safe haven for refugee, immigrant, Aboriginal, and other inner-city families. Welcoming up to 65 children ages 0-12 years, the centre is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and provides a nurturing learning environment, nutritious meals, and extended support for families and children in need.
The Executive Director (ED) is an employee of the ICFC and reports to the Board of Directors of the Centre. The ED is responsible for coordinating the affairs of the Centre, including the activities of all staff members, students and volunteers , as well as managing finances & resources at the Centre. The ED ensures that the Centre is fulfilling its mission, vision and values by supporting and involving all families, providing high quality care and early learning support, and researching and demonstrating effective intercultural practice.
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- A 4-year degree or 2-year diploma in Early Learning and Care or a comparable field of study from a recognized college or university.
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Service Administration will be considered an asset.
- Previous experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous management and/or supervisory experience, supplemented by strong leadership capabilities and potential.
- Several years of experience in centre-based child care is preferred.
- Standard Child Care First Aid.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word and Excel).
- Capable of managing finances/budgets.
The ideal candidate for this position must be a skilled communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills. This position requires effective supervisory and leaderships skills, including problem-solving and conflict resolution capabilities. The successful applicant must demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented approach, as well as a respectful, culturally-aware, and sensitive demeanor in interactions with all children, families, and staff.
The Executive Director position requires an understanding of “interculturalism” as it relates to this unique and innovative child care. Any acquired knowledge of this concept will be considered a strong asset. The ICFC is searching for an innovator who openly embraces new and non-traditional approaches to practicing Early Learning and Child Care that also aligns with intercultural child care best practices.
Wage: Competitive salary
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
