Primary Responsibilities
Nursing Duties 60%

  • Assesses a person’s suitability to be admitted to Inspirit, relative to prevailing criteria and

develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans and/or recovery plans for residents (as
assigned by Coordinator of Care)

  • Consistently circulate the building and assist in resident care where needed
  • Ensure an independent lifestyle with excellent quality care for residents
  • Assessing and monitoring resident’s status
  • Promotes satisfaction of internal and external relationships with family, suppliers and the

public at large

  • Preparing and administrating medications
  • Recording in resident’s charts as per established policy
  • Obtaining AM and PM reports from other staff
  • Complex resident care including dressings, vital signs, etc
  • Oversees the process of referrals, admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Discuss DNR’s with residents and ensuring documentation is placed in its appropriate place

and is up to date

  • Setting up residents with physiotherapy by educating, getting consents signed and doctor


  • Keeping knowledge and skills up to date by attending seminars, conferences and reading

information related to the job; attend relevant in services/training as offered

  • Assumes on-call responsibility as a permanent reality of the position for night of day shift


  • Ordering/reordering medications for residents
  • Setting up monthly MARS (Medication Administration Records)
  • Cross-checking pills in weekly pouches with MARS
  • Once per year new master signature list to be signed by all associates giving medications
  • Report resident changes to the Director-Inspirit Residences

Administrative Duties 40%

  • Maintain and adjust the established schedule for the care department as needed including

PSW care and housekeeping.

  • Ensure a multi-disciplinary, multi-task team approach to care is utilized and expected, where

the commitment and pursuit of excellence is premier and the demonstration of kindness to
all is upheld. To this end, the function of the Registered Nurse is to maintain an environment
that supports all associates and therein provides an excellent place for residents to live, and
family and friends to visit

  • Serves as the primary contact with all residents and their families regarding all aspects of the

resident’s life pertaining to their Inspirit experience, namely the admission assessment, and
care (inclusive of medical matters, activity and nutrition)

  • Monitoring office supplies
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of recruitment and retention programs for

nursing and PSW associates

  • Attends Associates’ meetings
  • Reviewing monthly budget
  • Conducting tours of Inspirit (as needed)
  • Intercedes effectively with residents and families to successfully resolve concerns related to

the delivery of Resident care

  • Act as a role model mentor for other Associates
  • Demonstrates conflict resolution/problem solving skills
  • Decides and acts based on ethical principles and foster a non-discriminatory climate in

which care is delivered in a manner sensitive to socio-cultural diversity

  • All aspects of the daily routine should be appropriately shared between the Associates

working. Teamwork and communication are essential, imperative components of our

  • Operate within the context of Inspirit’s health and safety policies and contribute to the

ongoing efforts of health and safety


  • Has a minimum of 24 months experience with the health needs of the population served:

Elder Care, with an emphasis on personal care and community life

  • Possesses a Baccalaureate degree in nursing, or a College diploma in nursing, and a current

registration with CNO (College of Nurses of Ontario)

  • Absolute commitment to and promotion of the well-being, security and care of the frail and

vulnerable elderly

  • Ability to adapt to frequently changing and challenging situations
  • Personal resilience and resolve
  • Consistent ability to respect and positively contribute to a multi-disciplinary, multi-task team


  • A current clean Vulnerable Persons Police Record Check
  • Current CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications
