I was with ICON for over 11 years. The experience was highly motivating. My reason for leaving was due to the closing of west coast operations.

Project Assistant-Lifecycle Sciences Group (Current Employee), Chicago, IL – April 12, 2013
Pros: health benefits, sick days
Cons: compensation
I was hired as a temp to assist with on one study. Within that time the study I was assigned was put into close out phase and I was hired as a full time employee. I have learned so much in that time because the nature of project's focus changed drastically. I have since been put onto multiple studies where I'm learning many new things in the world of – more... clinical research. My managers are both in the office and out of state, communication is an essential part of is position. I enjoy how we are given responsbility to assist with projects. I enjoy the independence and the flexible work schedule. Hardest part of the job is learning about a new studies via the Standard Operating Proedures. – less

Pros: great work life balance (work from home and long vl
Cons: management team are mostly new
The company is certainly a great place to work with.
Great team members.
The job is a little challenging as most of the subordinates are fairly new to the company.
It is certainly very rewarding for me to work with people from different region.

In House Clinical Studies Associate (Former Employee), Nashville, TN – December 27, 2012
Company is limited by its cumbersome HR. Agility and talent are lost by assigning top positions to 'time in' versus merit. This company will continue to take a hit until the get rid of the dead weight from management and hire some innovation.

Overworked and underpaid
Clinical Data Lead (Current Employee), Dublin – November 19, 2012
Pros: a regular income
Cons: too much stress, too long hours, too little pay, too little thanks, too little career advancement
Be prepared to work hard (12 hr days) with no work/life balance for at least 6 months of every year and with no support from management. Also do not expect any type of reward, thanks or career advancement. You will only get promoted here if you are best friends with your manager. Majority of management have no idea how to manage/ motivate people. Only – more... a handful of good managers exist and you may never be lucky enough to work with them. Expect nothing from this company and you will not be disappointed. – less

Too Political....
Regulatory Department Administrator (Former Employee), Hanover, MD – September 25, 2012
Pros: beautiful location and workplace
Cons: too political and weakness in good management
A typical day at work is going about your duties as usual. It is an open environment so collaboration with co-workers is open and encouraged. Management is not inherent in most individuals and what I learned was if putting someone in management, be sure they have the training and abilities needed before giving the title of manager. Otherwise, it can – more... become very awkward and difficult in the workplace for so-called managers who can't manage their way out of a paper bag. Upper management is no better in that they only look at the side of the manager with no consideration for the plight of the workers. Hardest part was the awful daily commute...most enjoyable was the convenience of being near Arundel Mills mall. – less

Incongruent processes, unorganized and stressful
Clinical File Specialist (Former Employee), North Wales, PA – August 27, 2012
Icon's corporate philosopy does not match they're actual reality. Staff is over worked/underpaid, CRF file rooms are in disarray, which should be ready for audit at any time. Management ignores lower titled employees and doesnt seem to take any ownership.

Not sure how to feel ={
SSU Associate (Current Employee), Nashville, TN – July 12, 2012
Pros: vacation, relaxed environment, benefits
Cons: some employees have no personality; complaining ee's; not enough functions
Overall seems like a good place to work, meaning you're not micro-managed. Management is hit or miss depending on who you report too. There are some great mangers who really know how to communicate and help you understand processes. Then there are some less tactful Managers who aren't interested in the well-being of there group and clearly there to – more... collect a check.

The workload in all honesty is not terrible, it's hit or miss as well. There are peak times and then times were your not as busy but have a steady workload.

Advancement is ALL about "who" you know, so unfortunate for the company.

Vacation, benefits are really great!!! PAY sucks for the amount of work; the Managers get bonuses instead of the "real" workers. That's unfair because managers already make great money, reach out to "common" folks for extra money. – less

Study Start Up Associate (Current Employee), New York, NY – June 17, 2012
A large level of autonomy is given when working towards completing tasks. Team leaders provide ample guidance and assistance when needed. If not careful, the workload can get overwhelming.
