Purpose:

The incumbent is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of our client’s technology related projects ensuring consistency with the organization’s strategy, commitments and goals. The Director of Project Management Office is responsible to manage a team of project managers to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to set deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

Responsibilities:

Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
Develop best practices, techniques, and tools for project planning, execution, project management, milestone/deliverable tracking, communication, and key performance metrics to improve departmental processes and initiatives.
Define the scope, goals, and deliverables of IT projects to support business goals, in collaboration with senior management.
Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
Identify and manage project dependencies and critical paths.
Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
Provide leadership of multiple concurrent phases throughout project lifecycles to ensure initiatives and project objectives are being executed promptly and accurately.
Assign project managers to project work based on areas of expertise and/or development opportunity in order to successfully capitalize on these opportunities.
Define project success criteria and communicate to stakeholders throughout project lifecycle.
Work with project managers to identify, define and create project charters (purpose)
Effectively communicate and manage project expectations to project managers, sponsors, team members, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise fashion.
Communicate project management standards and techniques to the appropriate staff.
Review project budget proposals, and recommend subsequent changes where necessary.
Review and/or approve project timelines and milestones/deliverables to meet deadlines.
Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
Conduct project post mortems and create recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Coach, mentor, and motivate staff, project team leads, team members, and contractors, to influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within and between various project teams.
Leader for service offerings in the areas of Organizational Change Management, Process Improvement, Solution Design and Business Analysis

Must Have:

Diploma or degree majoring in Computer Science; Preference will be given to candidates with a degree.
Comprehensive business knowledge & experience; thorough understanding of project, program & portfolio management; thorough knowledge of the Retail Industry
15-20 years progressive experience in process improvement, change management, people management, and transformational IT initiatives (or a related discipline)
5-7 years progressive experience in managing IT professionals
Thorough understanding of technology & performance metrics around project management
Ability to learn & innovate; ability to introduce learning & innovation throughout the IT and PMO
Ability to develop effective and strategic working relationships with different business leaders in IT & business functions
Strong people leadership, coaching & mentoring skills
Ability to conduct thorough needs analysis to identify the true needs of Lines of Business;
Ability to foresee future needs & understand overall picture around business requests; identify & recommend optimal solutions;
Strong familiarity with project management software, such as MS Project.
Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Capacity to meet deadlines.

Nice to Have:

PMP certification is strongly preferred
