IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is recruiting for a PROJECT MANAGER for our Fort McMurray, Alberta Client.

As the accountable management resource assigned to complex business and development projects, you would lead professional teams and manage the projects through to successful completion by following a structured project management mythology and approach that aligns with PMI standards. You would report to the VP, Development on a collaborative basis.


Provide technical expertise, project management skills, controlling time, scope, budget and operational impacts of projects within the team

Manage all aspects of design and construction projects from inception to completion with a goal to produce quality improvements to a $400 million portfolio; including developing comprehensive RFP documents for design and construction services of complex projects and ensures compliance

Adheres to the principals of the recognized Project Management Institute to develop and organize project protocols, procedures, relationships, and performs objectives to promote and achieve targets in relation to design and construction projects

Serves as a Real Estate representative on joint interdepartmental or divisional working groups

Provides formulation of project budgets from minimal information at the feasibility stage, controlling costs through the design stage to maintaining the integrity of the established budget and to ensure that client groups receive the best value for their capital commitment, manage change and risk in relation to projects

Prepares tender documentation, reviews all drawings, tender documents and specifications relating to all aspects of assigned projects

Prepares necessary reports to Senior Management or Board related to capital project delivery and to address issues of scheduling expenditures scope and facility impacts of assigned projects based on current or revised schedule

Leads proposal/prequalification/tender selection and all delegated authority documentation

Meets regularly with consultant, contractors and Divisional staff to ensure compliance with project scope, time and cost

Reviews, tracks and evaluates consultants and/or contractors progress and performance as it relates to the delivery of assigned capital project to ensure adherence to schedule, funding and project scope

Acts as liaison to effectively build and maintain a positive working relationship including correspondence between contractors, consultants, suppliers and building inspectors and government authorities with respect to all construction and design issues, interact effectively with target audience to obtain buy-in on difficult issues (e.g., proposed changes in business process or culture)

Establishes and maintains a portfolio to support management information system (i.e. scheduling and cost/budget)

Ensure adequate inspection and staff supervision of the work in progress by contractors and department staff ensuring that all work is executed in accordance with relevant legislation and approved project drawings and specifications

Responsible for monitoring all construction projects as they relate to Health and Safety regulations and maintains records on infractions and accidents in the event of litigation

Leads in the resolution of delay claims and disputes that may arise through the execution of construction activities in the event of disputes and litigation

Perform other related duties as assigned


University degree in Engineering, Architecture or Engineering/Architectural Technologist (CET) from a recognized professional school

PMP and LEED certified an asset

Minimum 8 – 10 years’ hands on experience, preferably in the financial services, residential and commercial real estate sectors

Extensive project management experience in large, complex facility construction and on-site experience in the management of new construction and the renovation of existing assets, including heritage restoration work, preferably on projects which construction has occurred within an operation facility

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and government legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Construction Lien Act, National Fire Code, Alberta Building Code, Construction Standards Association and other relevant codes and regulations

An ability to interpret site, mechanical, electrical, structural and architectural drawings and specifications

Proven ability to lead effective project teams using negotiation, conflict resolution skills, risk mitigation strategies and develop collaborative internal and external business relationships
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills to deal effectively throughout all levels of the organization, political representatives, consultants, contractors and the public

Demonstrates knowledge of current and leading technology and identifies and applies opportunities for using technologies to support business objectives

Proficient in MS Word, Excel and MS Project; possess solid mathematical and strong spreadsheet skills

Possession of a valid Alberta Driver’s License, and the use of a personal vehicle for site visits
