Position Summary:

Reporting to the HR Manager, the Payroll and Benefits Administrator is responsible for ensuring accurate processing of hourly and salary payroll, payroll reports, and assuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial/state legislation in Canada, as well as adherence to company policies. The primary function is to be the payroll expert and execute payroll through our client's payroll systems in Canada. The second key responsibility will be to act as the main contact for benefits enrollment and issues, and act as liaison with our client's benefits providers in Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process salary and hourly bi-weekly payrolls, in an accurate timely manner, including benefits account reconciliations
  • Providing day-to-day support to employees and managers regarding payroll & benefits, including enrolment into payroll and benefits
  • Monitoring time data through time keeping software
  • Creating 3rd party and off-cycle payments (example: AHC, terminations)
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance, integrity and operations of payroll system and time keeping software (Kronos Workforce)
  • Audit and reconcile benefits premium statements
  • Administer Payroll policies and procedures
  • Ensure personnel files are complete and contain all relevant documentation with regards to benefits, wages, and emergency contacts
  • Liaise with various external stakeholders, such as, but not limited to, Ceridian, Kronos, Canada Revenue Agency, Human Resources Development Canada,EFAP as well as internal supervisors/managers
  • Balancing tax remittances, Tax filing, Special government reporting, creating tax forms for employees and year-end filing
  • Creating & updating HR/ payroll/benefit forms
  • Assisting other projects and duties as directed

Required Qualifications and Competencies for the Position:

  • 5 - 7 years experience in payroll and benefits administration
  • Post-secondary education in business administration or a related discipline and PCP designation
  • Solid experience with Ceridian, and Kronos software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm, professional and courteous at all times
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills with team-player mentality
  • Up to date knowledge of federal and provincial legislation as it applies to payroll
  • Ability to work independently in a highly confidential environment
  • Ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities and a heavy workload
