Howe Sound Pulp and Paper has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Advisor at our Port Mellon site. Howe Sound Pulp and Paper Corporation is one of the most progressive Kraft, Pulp and Paper manufacturers in the world, leading industry in product quality, efficiency and environmental protection. On the heels of a $6 million dollar upgrade of our evaporators we have now completed a $36 million fluidized bed upgrade to our power boiler to enhance energy and generate clean power. We are now one of the largest independent producers of renewable electricity in BC.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor is a key member on the HR team and is expected to make a significant contribution to the overall success of the mill. The position is accountable for the initiation and facilitation of initiatives that directly contribute to the achievement of strategic goals. The successful candidate will help create a constructive culture that promotes the achievement of results by partnering with leaders and employees to develop focused, value-adding initiatives that will help Howe Sound attain its vision as a profitable, high-involvement organization.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Human Resources Advisor is accountable for supporting the operation in the achievement of its performance objectives by assisting managers, superintendents, supervisors and workers in achieving their stated performance objectives. This to be accomplished through management, coordination, support and coaching in the areas of:

Labour Relations
Contract Administration and Interpretation
Employee Relations
Performance Management
Personal Development
Succession Planning
Employee Communication
Policies and Procedures

The Human Resources Advisor will play a key role in the development of effective relationships among all groups at the site, particularly in working with leaders and our local union.

The successful candidate will have a combination of qualifications that will include either:

  • A post-secondary education, ideally a graduate degree, in an HR related or equivalent discipline combined with relevant work experience; CHRP designation is an asset, or
  • A proven record of achievement in human resources with special emphasis on the redesign of business processes and cooperative relationship building in a manufacturing environment.
