Howe Sound Pulp and Paper has an immediate opening for a Safety Superintendent at our Port Mellon site. Howe Sound Pulp and Paper Corporation is one of the most progressive Kraft, Pulp and Paper manufacturers in the world, leading industry in product quality, efficiency and environmental protection. On the heels of a $6 million dollar upgrade of our evaporators we have now completed a $36 million fluidized bed upgrade to our power boiler to enhance energy and generate clean power. Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, you provide expertise and guidance to all levels of management to promote a culture that ensures the highest standards of safety and occupational health.
You are responsible for providing professional knowledge and expertise in the leadership and coordination of all occupational health, safety and loss prevention programs to ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees and the protection of the physical plants and company property. You are also responsible for management and coordination of Emergency Response Services for the site, including Fire/Rescue and First Aid and responsible for Site Security, including acting MFSO (Marine Facility Safety Officer) for the mill site.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Applied or Basic Science, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), or;
- CSO(Construction Safety Officer) designation
- Minimum five (5) years directly related experience in Occupational Health & Safety in an Industrial setting
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) by American Board of Hygiene
- Experience in Emergency Response such as previous Fire Department involvement, Hazmat training, or Incident Command would be an asset.
