Hospitals In-Common Laboratory Inc. (also known as HICL, In-Common Laboratories and In-Common Labs) is a private, not-for-profit Ontario based corporation, governed by a skills-based Board of Directors, since 1967. HICL is Canada’s only national lab referral coordination network. Many clients do not perform all tests that may be ordered by a doctor, hence the need for a referral service. HICL does not perform lab tests, rather has access to world-class hospital testing facilities, within its referral network. Over 450 Canadian and international clients and their patients, benefit by having HICL be responsible for an end-to-end brokerage service for their lab tests. The Medical Laboratory Referral Network (LRN) manages all the logistics related to the referral of laboratory tests for medical, nutritional, occupational, and pharmaceutical testing procedures to specific accredited hospital reference labs, each having a site specific agreement related to services, expectations and pricing. HICL provides value-added services that extend the professional, technical and production expertise of hospital laboratories to the benefit of the entire health care community. In return, clients are offered the highest quality laboratory services at affordable, cost-effective rates.
Our Mission is to enhance, through innovation and partnerships, access to laboratory services that promote and support the hospital lab system.
Our Values of Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation and Inspiration describe our behaviour in the support of our nation’s hospital labs and its patients.
Our Vision is to provide a consolidated referral system, managed with quality and integrity, to healthcare professionals and others, needing comprehensive lab services for patients.
