Founded in the 1920's, Hollinger Hardware was purchased in 1948 by Henry Sittler, Arthur Zilliaz, and Walter Hachborn (current president of Home Hardware).
The history of Home Hardware is one of hard work and steady growth.
Founded in 1963 by approximately 120 independent hardware dealers who found that they could not compete profitably by following the traditional methods of distribution. Their objectives were to eliminate the middleman's profit, obtain the advantages of quantity purchasing and one-stop shopping, and at the same time, develop an equity in relationship to their purchases, thus building a strong base which would allow them the resources, facilities and staff to compete with any form of competition.
The company was founded in Ontario, and quickly grew to include Atlantic Canada. By 1967, the partnership was so successful that a major move was required to continue expansion! Both head office and distribution had to be relocated to a new 75,000 square foot facility. With the move, the downtown warehouse was converted into the first Home Furniture Store.
The partnership continued to grow and 1981 was a banner year! During 1981, Home expanded the dealership to include Western Canada by amalgamating with Link Hardware Company of Edmonton, Alberta. In 1985, the Distribution Centre was moved from Edmonton to a new 460,000 square foot facility in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
Today, there are close to 1000 Home Hardware Dealers across Canada providing you with great prices and quality advice. – less–ZoomInfo
