Very good training but low on work-life balance
Seasonal Labourer (Former Employee), Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QCDecember 21, 2014
Cons: no full time positions ever available.
I don't know about how other home depot's work bt the one I worked at really didn't take into consideration I had 3 young kids at home and I couldn't make it in once in a while or I had to leave work early because the daycare worker couldnt handle the kids. But it didnt happen once a shift.. it happened maybe once or twice a month. That's still not – more... that bad. But overall, good safety, good training, ok pay and good management skills. – less

It is a job, not a career
Associate (Current Employee), Westbank, BCDecember 19, 2014
Pros: free food on special days
Cons: schedules are not ever consistent, management reprimands you in front of customers, sometimes minimal staff due to staff members off sick, management has lied in order to fire people
Co-workers are excellent but management doesn't recognize them unless they are their favourites, safety standards are usually met but not always, there are games throughout the year to create incentives, the hardest part of the job would be the lack of training and hours to train. the most enjoyable part of the job is working with fellow associates and – more... helping the customers – less

Machine Operator, Freight Associate (Former Employee), Calgary, ABDecember 16, 2014
Pros: profit share
Cons: lack of management leadership!!
Management was lacking, virtually non existent.
The most enjoyable part of this job was the customer base, and other staff members. A typical day would've been filled with customer questions, stocking product, and general job orientated duties.

good workplace and working like a supervisor
Sale Associate (Former Employee), Regina, SKDecember 11, 2014
Pros: working like a supervisor and having good remarks from store manger
Cons: cleaning pigeon leftovers
Meet and greet customers and having good and funny conversations. Also helping out other team members who need help with either a product finding or explaining the policies of the company or resolving their issues towards the team members or the company, and sometimes being the only member of my section with good remarks from the store manager. Also – more... having a fun environment with team members. – less

If you're a go-getter and like retail, this place is for you.
Lot Associate and Cashier (Former Employee), Oakville, ONDecember 9, 2014
Pros: enjoyable working atmosphere, resources readily available
Cons: hours aren't very flexible, may require heavy lifting
Home Depot is a well organized corporation that runs their stores pleasantly. The amount of work is fair and they supply their employees with the resources they need to get through their day smoothly. Back braces, steel toe boots, gloves, etc. can all be compensated after purchase and uniforms are practically given away (I still have 6 shirts and 3 – more... aprons). Management is overall very fair. If you work hard you will be recognized and awarded with a "Homer Award". The hardest part of the job would be knowing your stuff. You will be taught what you need to know for your department but it's up to you to remember everything and apply the knowledge to customer needs. The most enjoyable part of the job would be the atmosphere created by the staff. It's almost like a 2nd family for those who aren't in it for the money. – less

Pretty decent
Cashier (Former Employee), MarkhamDecember 4, 2014
Pros: good coworkers and supervisors
Cons: sell, sell those credit cards and everything else in the store
Generally a pretty good place to work, managers and supervisors are understanding towards your situation and thus you can be civil about approaching them. However they always push for you to sell credit cards regardless of who you are and what depart you work at so watch out for that.

Coworkers are friendly. People you could hang out with outside of work.

Shifts are tailored to your schedule if necessary (great for students)

A typical day is come in provide customer service, over look deliveries and ensure everything is running smoothly and all merchandising is set for up coming promos.

Great place to work in a fast paced environment
Merchandising Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Edmonton, ABNovember 23, 2014
Pros: great team members, the opportunity to make a difference in the community, benefits
Cons: work life balance
My typical day at work was on the floor, driving sales and service through the associates and the team I lead. As an ASM, conflict resolution and ensuring customers left happy is part of my regular day. I work with some great people, and although I love my job, the people was a big part of why I've stayed so long. Work life balance can be tricky and – more... was probably the hardest part of my job. Overall, I enjoyed all aspects of the business, because I used every situation as a learning tool to improve myself. – less

Lot Associate (Former Employee), Cobourg, ONNovember 20, 2014
Everyday was different but it resulted in a good outcome. I got along with every associate and manager because we trusted each other's skills and personality. The hardest part of the job would be multi-tasking because there are some tasks that you have to do while you're already working on another one. The most enjoyable part of the job would be interacting – more... with the customers while you're assisting them with their product carry-outs because you can build a good reputation from not only the customers, but the associates and managers as well. What i've learned was that you should take your time with all of your tasks because trying to rush through them will be a lot more difficult to complete. – less

Merchandiser/RaymondReach Op (Former Employee), Woodbridge, ONNovember 16, 2014
Home depot is a great place for students or people who are first getting into the workforce because they have flexible hours and also help pay for university and college fees. So if you're a student who needs help paying the tuition fee, give home depot a shot. (They also have hours for night shift for those with a busy day.)
