Pros: nice people, long hours.
Cons: no food, no discount.
Fun, Energetic sales representatives flood the floors of this major company. They treat the employees great! watch out though because they fire people very quickly, knew 3 people who got fired within the first 3 weeks.

A dusty box of misery
paint sales (Former Employee), EtpbicokeApril 14, 2014
Pros: free freezies!
Cons: heinous managers
It was a fun work environment, at first. The other associates in the department were great, and very supportive to the newbies, although it's a revolving door. Management was a bit like the Gestapo and a lot of the employees were disgruntled, the longer they worked there. Even after a 3 month probation, they saw fit to fire you for no good reason. In – more... training, the credo was a pyramid shape where customers were first, associates second, management third but that wasn't so..management treated employees like disposable maxipads. Also you are at the mercy of the scheduler, you could be working almost full time hours one week, and the next less than 30 so it's impossible to have another job. – less

Overall good place to work, friendly co-workers
Cashier/Lumber Associate (Former Employee), Calgary, ABApril 10, 2014
Pros: great co-workers and pay
Cons: long hours
My job at The Home Depot varied a lot from day to day. Every day, however, it was my job to provide the best customer service possible to everyone who walked through those doors. I gained a lot of work experience from this job. My co-workers were all very friendly and we worked as a team. The hardest part of my job was dealing with angry customers who – more... would not calm down and would even swear at me while I tried to help them get what they needed, but I enjoyed communicating with the majority of customers who were not angry. – less

Enjoyed working with different race of people and handling wide range of products.
Cashier (Former Employee), Mississauga,ONApril 9, 2014
Pros: paid breaks, well maintained lunch room, lockers for personal belongings.
Cons: mostly heavy equipment to deal with
At Home Depot as a cashier, i use to serve more than 100 customers a day. Every customer was different from the other buying a different product. The best thing about this job was i get to interact with many different people coming from different race & culture, professions etc. Some customers were very satisfied with the service/products, others were – more... not. As i said every customer was different from the other, i learned how to manage people and their queries. Gathering information about different products and learning new procedures was also a great/enjoyable experience for me. Co-workers were friendly and helped me performing my job duties efficiently. – less

Loss Prevention Officer (Former Employee), Calgary, ABApril 8, 2014
Pros: challenges of how people upgrade in stealing
Cons: violence
Would walk the floor looking for suspicious people doing frauds or theft. There is many different ways to commit theft or fraud. Also many different types of people you meet doing this job staff and people you arrest.

Every co-worker has a different and unique style to there job. So you learn something different everyday and then you put it into your – more... practice. I found and one of the reasons why I eventually left was the violence was increasing. People have no regard for themselves or anyone else. The most enjoyable part was it was always a challenge in learning the new techniques and advanced ways people would steal. – less

Excellent people and excellent training.
Service Representative (Former Employee), Burnaby, BCApril 4, 2014
Pros: training, benefits even for part time, management, coworkers, atmosphere. all good!
Cons: random hours, not enough money to live on
The Home Depot Canada is a wonderful place to work. The people that you get to work with are great. The training that you receive is very thorough and the time spent on each employee is very generous. It is very impressive that a company this large can spend as much time and money on each of its massive number of employees. Even part time employees – more... receive medical and dental benefits. I was pleasantly surprised when I worked there. Unfortunately, the pay cannot support a family unless you are one of the few who make it to upper management or you live in a low cost area of the world. (Definitely not enough pay to survive in BC) Also, the hours when you start are quite random so sleeping is basically a luxury. Overall though, you can do a lot worse than The Home Depot. I have a lot of respect for this company after working for them for almost a year. – less

Home depot was pretty flexible but they seem unorganized and somewhat scattered. There is never enough people staffed on the floor
Merchandiser (Former Employee), Red deer ABMarch 31, 2014
I worked on the Merchandising execution team. Work was pretty easy. There was never enough Home Depot associates on the sales floor which hindered performance in my job seeing how \i was constantly helping customers. The hardest part of job was the physical labour and trying to help frustrated customers.

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee), Edmonton, ABMarch 26, 2014
Pros: very good at balancing work with your social life.
Cons: very slow in the winter time
a typical day at work would involve dealing with customers and handling cash.
I learned how to use a till and how to work with money as well as gaining almost a year worth of customer service skills.
Management was very friendly and very cooperative.
Co workers were the same.
Hardest part of my job would have to be trying to find certain products that – more... i did not have much knowledge about.
