SENIOR JAVA DEVELOPER (toronto downtown)
Job Title: Senior Java Developer (SWING BASED GUI): Reporting to Project Manager CLOSE TO UNION
(Permanent full-time) 75,000-85,000

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join an Agile software development team at this prestigious firm. This exciting role will be central to the creation of the newest version of our in-house policy and claims management system. In addition to outstanding technical skills and imagination, we are looking for an individual who understands and can relate to business users and issues in a fast-paced, professional environment. Customer focus, superior communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time are essential.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:
7 plus years related experience in development of Java-based applications;
An extremely deep understanding of design patterns and Swing-based GUI development;
Fluency in object-oriented design, analysis and programming techniques;
The ability to analyze, translate, and define business requirements into technical solutions;
A demonstrated attention to detail, superior communication and organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work on multiple concurrent projects effectively individually and in a team;
Proficiency in programming fundamentals and their implementation in Java, including threading, concurrency, data structures & algorithms;
Proficiency in the latest and greatest features in the Java language and the Java platform;
A deep understanding of unit testing including JUnit and mocking libraries;
A post-secondary diploma/degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.

It is preferred that the candidate:

  • Experience with version control, test-driven development, automated unit testing and the XP programming methodology; * Eagerness to consistently exceed expectations and contribute to a successful team; * A passion for finding the best answers to challenging problems; * Dedication to excellent high quality coding practices and documentation; * The ability to collaborate effectively on application architecture and design; * Knowledge of interface design and software usability issues; * A passion for continued learning and the ability to master any new technology, language, or development environment quickly; * Excellent command of written and spoken English; * Excellent client and service orientation; * The passion and expertise to mentor and share knowledge and best practices * Experience working with customers to negotiate project requirements, scope and timelines; * Keen understanding of performance issues and end--to-end debugging capabilities; * Strong problem solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics and arrive at sound analysis and judgment; * Experience with an Eclipse-based IDE, SVN, Hudson, and Jira; * Experience with Oracle, SQL, and UniVerse.

Location: toronto downtown
Compensation: 80--85,000 full benefits 4 weeks vacation
