Family Services Coordinator – Part-Time Permanent

Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is growing again thanks to wonderful support in our community. We are looking for an engaging and dynamic leader as our Family Services Coordinator to support our organization’s growth and the families we serve in our community.
We are part of Habitat for Humanity Canada – a national, non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. We work in partnership with people to improve the conditions in which they live.
The Family Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in Habitat Hamilton’s operations by supporting the efforts of the Family Services Committee and the needs of our Partner Families, who are the reason why Habitat Hamilton is in operation.

Scope and Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Family Services Coordinator is responsible for supporting our Partner Families. This staff position contributes to the execution of Habitat Hamilton’s business strategy and is accountable for helping to implement and execute policies and procedures to meet the goals of the organization including the procurement and education of our Partner Families.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate on behalf of Habitat for Humanity Hamilton
  • Participate in monthly meetings of the Family Services committee
  • Aid in the sourcing of prospective Partner Families for attendance at information sessions
  • Support the Family Services committee in meetings with partner organizations in the acquisition of families
  • Support the delivery of monthly information sessions for prospective Partner Families as needed
  • Recommend and implement improvements to Family Services process and policies
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Partner Family training sessions as needed
  • Act as an additional direct resource to Partner Families in their transition to home ownership
  • Conduct annual reviews with Partner Families to assess and update mortgage payments after the first year review
  • Intervene in mortgage delinquencies to work with Partner Families through to resolution
  • Deliver regular reporting on family status to the Director of Ops and CEO, in cooperation with the Chair of Family Services
  • Produce monthly written updates for Board of Directors meetings
  • Participate in monthly conference calls with Habitat Canada regarding Family Services
  • Participate in bi-weekly team meetings with Habitat staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a social services role
  • Must be able to pass vulnerable sector police clearance
  • Must have access to vehicle and G class license
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding and commitment to the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and desire to promote it
  • Understand the challenges low-income families face
  • Ability to ensure the confidentiality of applicant information
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
