Truck Driver and Merchandise Handler

Habitat for Humanity Halton requires a Full Time Truck Driver / Merchanidse Handler who is eager to contribute to the success of our ReStores. Our ReStores sell new and gently used building supplies as well as unique home décor items. Revenues from the Halton ReStore cover 100% of all administrative and fundraising costs, allowing 100% of all donations received to go toward building homes for families in need.

Responsible for picking up, dropping off, delivering and salvaging donated furniture, building and renovation materials in a safe and efficient manner throughout Halton (Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills) while always representing Habitat for Humanity Halton in a respectable manner.

Reporting to the Salvage Coordinator the duties of this position will include:

Maintaining the vehicle mileage, fuel and inspection reports on a daily basis.
Alerting the Salvage Coordinator to the condition of ReStore vehicles and repairs or maintenance as required.
Determining the most efficient route to perform daily pick-ups.
Evaluating the suitability of materials at pick up and salvage locations in accordance with current criteria established by ReStore policies.
Working with the volunteer salvage team and coordinating the removal of materials in conjunction with the team in a safe and efficient manner.
Ensuring all salvage and pick-up sites and surrounding areas are left clean and undamaged.
Alerting the Salvage Coordinator to any safety hazards and challenges at all pick up sites.
Assisting in store operations when required.
Responsible for placing yard signs and door communication on immediate neighbourhood when private salvage is conducted.
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge weights and measures.
Ability to communicate with associates and customers
Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation
Understand and respond appropriately to basic customer and employee inquiries

Valid class “G” or above driver’s license; a clean driver's abstract required.
Able to safely operate a motor vehicle (cube van)
Safety boots required: CSA approved safety footwear to be worn at all times.
Enjoys dealing with the public; excellent customer-service skills; works well independently and as part of a team
Must be punctual, reliable
Pickup & delivery experience is an asset
Ability to perform heavy lifting on a regular basis; able to easily lift 50 lbs. and to safely handle donated products such as cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, appliances, construction materials

This full-time position is based out of our Burlington ReStore Location (1800 Appleyby Line) .

The work hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday – Friday (Some weekend work as required)
