Job Title: Associate Programmer Analyst

Employment Type: Regular

The role is under general supervision, assists in design, development, test and implementation of business systems and/or to generate various reports required by project or development leads/managers, distribute these reports, monitor, and follow up as needed.

Impact on the Business

  • Provide support to approved projects as project team member under direction of the project team lead/manager
  • Complete study/analysis and development tasks; code, test, debug and document programs
  • Assist in development and testing of simple to moderately complex application programs or queries according to the specifications; code and modify relevant program(s) as necessary
  • Generate various reports on ongoing basis, distribute, and follow-up under supervision

Major Challenges

  • Demonstrate a basic level of understanding of the development process and ensure experience is gained through a 24 month period of coding, design, analysis and testing. Pass assessments of technical knowledge and programming language syntax within the first 24 months of entering the job role
  • Demonstrate through physical attendance an understanding of how a branch and call centre uses systems to support their business

Role Context

  • The role is inherently one under general supervision. However the incumbent must demonstrate a continuing desire to learn through experience as well as relevant training, and in particular evidence this in practical application

Management of Risk

  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand
  • The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring, and the impact of new technology.
  • This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and by addressing any areas of concern with immediate line management

Key Qualification and Requirements

  • Computer Science/Information Technology post secondary education required
  • Programming experience required
  • Familiar with MS-Office for purpose of creating and updating of documentation, reports, spreadsheets, presentation
  • Basic knowledge of application development life cycle
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies quickly
  • Ability to interact with the end user
  • Computer Science/Technology post education required
  • Programming in Java in a J2EE environment
  • Experience with Spring framework
