Continuous learning, fast paced, short season
Income Tax Preparer (Current Employee), Stirling, ON – July 4, 2012
Pros: new challenge
Cons: short season
During the intense season the days go by very quickly. I learned so much every day about taxes, people, how lives are effected by money.
Knowledge of management was their strength.
The hardest part of my job was learning the job from a text book and trying to impletment it .
The most enjoyable part of my job was relating to the client and the everyday – more... challenge. – less

Low wages, no advancement, incompetent DM, say no more!
part-time associate (Former Employee), Halifax, NS – June 20, 2012
Pros: nothing pro
Cons: long hours, poor pay and rude senior staff including the dm and assistant dm.
The wages are low and you take some staff have rather extensive backgrounds and deserve more. Anyone can be taught to input data but to truly understand what it means is something else.

Training is minimal once you are at the office which yes, you gahve your course but to have clients thrown at you tout suite is not good business practice. This gives – more... both the client who is paying TOP dollar for the service and the poor schmuck employee a bad experience right off the get go. Most senior staff have no use for the newbies and even though new employees are guaranteed that the senior staff are the to help out, nobody is watching and it rarely happens. I' ve seen both endas of the spectrum on that one. New staff looking for assistance because they aren't well trained and the senior staff fed up with doing the training for no extra money.

The DM for the area I worked actually threatened to have employees arrested because they were giving out the student discount too often... Even though the clients were indeed students. I actually kept an email that was circulated by him and it was threatening and in very poor taste. Funny thing was, a copy went to his boss and the staff never received an apology so that meant that she agreed with this... get real people! The DM was from a far eastern province and the English used and language spoken was improper. We used to laugh when a new message came through from him, it was full of grammatical errors, slang and the tone was always rude.

Good luck to anyone that made more than $10 bucks an hour! I have financial experience and I could roll out 3 pr 4 per hour and wasn't paid accordingly. Much less get a thank you or fair compensation!

I wouldn't recommend H&R Block to even the most desperate employee. – less

Good place to work
Receptionist (Former Employee), Kirkland Quebec – June 7, 2012
Pros: team spirit at our branch
Cons: correcting other peoples mistakes and being yelled at by customer
In tax season very busy, but our office has a great team and we all help each other work asxa team, also have time to laugh at ourselves and some strange people we meet.. Have learned many new computer skills, find the work very interesting.
Have an excellent Dist Manager and District Mgr.

The most difficult part of the work is trying to always be – more... diplomatic with certain types of people.

Having an haf an hour for lunch is very difficult , unless you bring your own, by the time you go and get it, you have to rush and that is not too healthy. – less

Overall Experience
Seasonal Tax Professional (Former Employee), Greater Sudbury, ON – May 22, 2012
Pros: accurate tax returns
Cons: poor salary
On a typical day you could service and care for up to 15 to 20 clients and prep their tax and other tax related services for them .
The work environment is great , your co-workers are amazingly helpful and kind . They are ready to help if you encounter a problem.

The hardest part of the job is that you are under enormous amount of pressure as you prep – more... the taxes in front of your client . You need to make sure that you enter the right data and make no mistakes . – less

A Good Starting
Tax Professional Level II (Current Employee), Ottawa, ON – March 27, 2012
Pros: learn new skills and meet great clients
Cons: season job
My duty is to prepare clients' individual income tax return to make sure they get back the maximum refund or pay the less tax. Since the clients' situations are not the same, the tax credits they can claim are quite different. It is a big challenge to conduct client interview as we need to cover all aspects which may have effect on the calculation of – more... tax. After the interview I will do data entry, with accuracy and speedy. Then I will explain the result to client, letting them know how the result is that much and why there is a difference with prior year's return. Future, I will give clients tax tips for next year's return. Next I will collect the service fee and explain the fee we charge. At last I will file the return and store documents in designed area. It is a great job to start a professional career. – less

Even Paced work environment.
Customer Service Professional (Former Employee), Lakeland, GA – May 19, 2013
Pros: even paced. a job you can work and go to school at the same time.
Cons: no cons come to mind.
My position at H&R Block never got to complicated. Very routine. Indoor job where you can meet new people and if you manage to work more than one season you see familiar faces. The job flowed well. I enjoyed working with my manager and co-workers. We talked and it was a good environment.

Customer Service Representative
Customer Service Manager (Temporary Assignment) (Former Employee), Apache Junction, AZ – May 19, 2013
Pros: taxes done for free
Cons: healthcare, hours, stability
Answered phone calls, scheduled appointments for tax preparers, cleaned the office, made coffee, kept the reception area clean. I worked closely with the tax preparers, befriended them, and enjoyed my job. I had a medical emergency in the office and they assisted me. The hardest part of the job was scheduling because of loyalty. Customers wanted to – more... stay loyal, but other associates would take their customers because of time restraints. It caused animosity in the office. I stayed when others left because of lack of hours. – less

Great learning opportunity
Receptionist (Former Employee), Wichita, KS – May 18, 2013
Pros: easy going work environment.
Cons: short breaks when busy.
My typical day at work was answering the phone, filing, calling customer to confirm appt., and in general taking care of any customers when they come in. I learned to prioritize and manage my time in a busy office. Management was easy to work with and receptive of my ideas. My co-workers were for the most part fun to work with and very knowledgeable. – more... The hardest part of the job was juggling everyone's schedule and still keeping the customers happy. The best part of my job was learning from the tax pro's and helping people get through a tough part of their lives. – less

Good place to work
Support Specialist (Former Employee), Kansas City, MO – May 16, 2013
Pros: sometimes the company would buy lunch and it was a good learning experience.
Cons: you have alot thrown at you all once with high expectations in a short time.
It is a good place to work with little IT knowledge if you can learn quickly. The season started out slow with a few calls a day and then increased dramatically with calls back to back after Tax season officially began. I learned a little about taxes, how to do a password reset, how to remote into Tax Office computers, how to help Tax professionals – more... with some of their problems in preparing taxes. The managment was very good. My manager was always accessible and easy to talk to if I had a problem. My coworkers were all generally friendly and willing to help. The hardest part of the job was getting time to document all the case notes for each call before you got another call during peak time period. The most enjoyable part of the job was all the different type of people I would talk to in a day and the variety of calls I would get to keep it interesting and not be bored. – less

The days consist of working with clients and working with their tax issues and help them prepare for future years.
I have learned that you can never stop learning everyday you are faced with different situations for different individuals. The best part about the job is being able – more... to help my clients understand their taxes better – less
