We are currently recruiting for the role of Trust Accountant to join our team in Surrey, BC. Reporting to the Controller, the Trust Accountant will be responsible for the accounting activities relating to the trust account. These duties include posting client payments, monitoring trust collections and issuing payments to carriers.

Within first 3 months:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the full collections process at GroupHEALTH and carrier rules.
  • Consistently meet deadlines for providing carriers with back up for payments.
  • Complete understanding of process to suspend and terminate clients following procedures set out by our carriers.
  • Learning the customized Great Plains settings and applying these skills to client receivable and carrier payment transactions.
  • Creating and understanding of the Due to General and commissions being held at source.
  • Develop an organized routine to ensure accuracy for all transactions including dates, ledger codes and carrier accounts.

Within first 6 months:

  • Gain understanding of the GroupHEALTH Products through the use of internal training tools.

In addition to joining a team that is focused on delivering the "WOW!" factor daily (while enjoying weekly yoga stretches, lunchtime walks, 26 long weekends a year, and lots of cake!), your Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Generating pre-authorized debit payments to collect premiums from clients
  • Generating payments to carriers for the premiums collected from clients
  • Providing carriers with back-ups to the payments that are remitted
  • Work together with Partner, clients and internal departments to collect premiums in a timely manner.
  • Process suspensions and terminations for clients who have not paid their premiums following a process set up by the carriers.
  • Balance sheet reconciliation for Trust account
  • Bank reconciliation for Trust bank account
  • Other ad-hoc tasks to support the Finance department

Must Haves
1) Strong written and verbal Communication Skills
2) Minimum 1 year of Collections Experience
3) Accounting Education through completion of a 1 year or 2 year diploma

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience with a minimum of 1 year of collections experience
  • MS Excel -- Intermediate to advanced level (vlookup & pivot tables)
  • Completion of a 1 year or 2 year diploma in accounting
  • Experience with Microsoft CRM is an asset
  • Experience with Great Plains is an asset
  • Experience with Health Benefits is an asset
