The Body Shop at Great West Kenworth in Grande Prairie, one of Canada’s newest heavy truck Body Shops is currently looking to fill the position of Body Shop Apprentice or Journeyman due to the growth of the department.

Great West Kenworth was first opened in 1970 and has been a fixture in Calgary for 41 years now. We sell, service and lease trucks as well as sell parts for Kenworth trucks. We have around 180 employees currently working in our branches including Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Red Deer, and Grande Prairie (40 employees) with our head office in Calgary. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of all truck body / structural systems used in the Kenworth product line or similar products.
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals on paper and in PC based formats.
  • Write and type service reports.
  • Open and close repair orders as required.
  • Assist in training apprentice body technicians in the trade.
  • Attend additional training as required.
  • Maintain personal and company tooling that gets used to do the job.
  • Utilize department chain of command (service writer, service administrator, lead hand, foreman, service manager, service director) when managing their job duties and solving problems.
  • Strict compliance with all company policies and procedures with a strong emphasis on job safety procedures.


Skills Required

  • Be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend to ensure effective communication with employees and customers.
  • Read and use documents.
  • Be able to think, plan, make decisions, and problem solve to complete jobs.
  • Ability to inspect equipment to determine the extent of damage, determine the repair required, and write estimates based on that repair.
  • Work with appraisers and insurance companies before, during, and after the repair is complete to ensure claims can be properly closed and payment collected.
  • Repair body and structural damage/ defects.
  • Clean, prep, and paint to provide a high quality finished product.
  • General computer skills.
  • The ability to withstand work related deadlines and pressures.
  • Must be able to sit, kneel, lift, walk, lay, and carry for extended periods.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Continuous self learning. Stay up to date with repair techniques, paint finishes, and related products.

Education and Qualifications

  • Completion of a three to five year Heavy Duty Body Technician program.
  • OR some work experience in the trade along with the basic educational requirements that would allow one to complete an apprenticeship program.
  • Class 5 driver license without any previous suspensions. Class 1 or 3 an asset but not a must.
