JOB POSITION: PUBLIC EDUCATION CO-ORDINATOR
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences or an equivalent level of experience and education. Crisis Intervention training.
Abilities: Experience in public speaking/group facilitation (as large as 40); excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work under minimal supervision; knowledge of the social problems of domestic violence; exceptional organizational and time management skills; administration skills (computer operation, filing, statistical reporting) ability to work well with children, youth and adults; strong understanding of community resources.
Requirements for position: A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate; Criminal Record Check; Child Welfare Check
AND SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director or Designate
1. Public Education and Awareness:
a. Provide information about Public Education programs to schools, agencies, community groups, and other referral sources as requested.
b. Promote the programs and services of the agency.
c. To respond, as requested, to information and public speaking request within the City and County of Grande Prairie through facilitating presentations.
d. Distribute/delegate volunteers to distribute pamphlets to community locations on a regular basis.
e. Be a member on the Family Violence Prevention Resource Network; take an active role in coordinating events for Family Violence Prevention Month.
f. Co-facilitate in-house groups in consultation with the Executive Director.
Public Education contd.
a. Schedule time/dates for presentations, displays and public awareness events.
b. Prepare annual funding proposal in cooperation with the Executive director to the City and County of Grande Prairie.
c. Keep up-to-date monthly statistical reports.
d. Prepare reports as requested.
e. Track expenditures in the annual budget, in cooperation with the Executive Director and Office Manager,
f. Submit monthly time sheets to the Executive Director.
g. Claim travel expenses as per established procedures.
h. Research and develop funding proposals and acquisition of funds for sustaining or expansion of the Public Education program in coordination with the Executive Director.
i. Participate on in-house Fundraising Committee.
3. Training and Supervision:
a. Assist with the training, supervision and evaluation of any staff hired to assist with the Public Education Program, including Program Assistant and casual support staff.
b. Supervise and evaluate any volunteers or practicum students who volunteer in the Public Education Program.
4. Community Liaisons:
a. Co-facilitate presentations with other partnering agencies – i.e. RCMP, John Howard Society, AADAC, and others as needed.
b. To work with local newspaper, television and media in coordination with the Executive Director to promote awareness and education.
c. To become a member and sit on Networks and committees as designated by the Director (Suicide Prevention Resources Network, Family Violence Prevention Resources Network).
5. Volunteer Support and Inclusion
a. Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify areas in the Public Education Program suitable for volunteer support.
b. Assist Volunteer Coordinator in the training of volunteers for the Public Education Program.
6. Staff Development:
a. Attend selected training sessions or conferences to further develop skills.
b. Meet with the Executive Director regularly for debriefing, consultation and support.
c. Attend monthly staff meetings.
d. Attend bi-monthly supervisor meetings
