This is an entry level part-time position for someone with a positive attitude and a sincere interest in the legal field particularly the areas of Real Estate, Wills & Estates, and Civil Litigation. The chosen applicant must be available Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9 am to 5 pm and must have access to a vehicle. This may turn into a full time opportunity for the right person as the business grows.

Your responsibilities would include:

Reception duties:
o Answering the phone
o Scheduling meetings
o Greeting clients
o Send/receive general mail, couriers, etc.
o Writing receipts
o Answer basic client questions; respond to e-mails/phone calls in a timely manner
o Banking: certify cheques, deposits, etc
o Local drop-offs and picks ups for documents/keys/bank deposits within Durham Region

Legal assistant duties:
o Complete new client intakes
o File management/ maintain a tickler system for follow up with mortgage lenders/agents/other counsel
o Some drafting for general correspondence
o Some legal research
o Correspond with other law offices and real estate brokers
o Assist senior law clerk with faxing, filing, etc

o Educational background in legal administration with top grades.
o 1 to 2 years of working within an office environment however, a legal office would be an asset.
o Access to a vehicle

Soft Skills required:
o Excellent attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions.
o A good sense of humour, a "go-getter" attitude, and problem solving skills.
