Forest Service (Current Employee) – Prince Albert, SK – 15 February 2018
The work place is good in Prince Albert as far as the building and parking goes. The staff are good to work with overall, however there is a real problem with egos, especially in management. There is a high number of staff who come from other provinces and do not fully understand SK attitudes, and very poorly understand the Indigenous people and their values. Managers have made jokes about how to get around the Duty to Consult process, saying "... they wouldn't even notice". Good employees are regularly "managed out" of the job, and so the agency loses intelligent, qualified people - again, due to management egos. The staff are friendly and it is easy to have an open conversation with co-workers. Managers are less open, and regularly show favoritism, putting high pressure and unrealistic expectations on staff they do not like. There is a lot of training for staff, which is nice for employees; however the training management receives seems to teach them how to avoid responsibility and how to harass without meeting the legal definition. More of a Ministry of Environment issue, but they selected a Director who has zero education or background in Natural Resources, instead chose an accountant to care for the public's forests in SK.
Good parking. Nice building.
Unqualified management. Un-safe to leave the property because of criminals.
