Golden Hills School Division No. 75, a high performing, progressive and growing school division employing approximately 385 teachers and 340 support staff, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Supervisor of Occupational Health & Safety/Human Resources. The Division Office is located in Strathmore, AB approximately 30 minutes east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada highway.

Reporting to the Associate Superintendent (Human Resources) the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and possess the knowledge, skills and qualifications as outlined below:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage Occupational Health and Safety requirements, Worker’s Compensation and disability claims, employee return to work and/or accommodations
  • Oversee payroll and benefit plans
  • Proactively work with staff to anticipate employee wellness and labor relations issues
  • Work with division staff to support and promote the recruitment and retention of certificated and non-certificated employees
  • Advise managers and employees about safe work practices and safety standards and regulations
  • Develop and implement training sessions in current health and safety practices
  • Develop and implement appropriate HR policies, practices and procedures or recommend changes to existing policies
  • Support human resources data collection, reporting and analysis
  • Assist with contract administration of unionized and non-unionized employee groups

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of human resources theory and practice, with a particular focus on Occupational Health and Safety requirements; Workers Compensation and employee relations
  • Knowledge of employment and labour relations legislation and processes
  • Knowledge of benefits administration and return to work strategies
  • Demonstrated dispute resolution and mediation skills
  • Analytical, research and reporting writing skills
  • Ability to design and deliver small group training and professional development sessions


  • Completion of, or progress toward, formal education in occupational health and safety, environmental health, compensation, human resource management or a related discipline
  • A bachelor degree in a related field and/or CHRP Designation is an asset
  • Certificate in dispute resolution/mediation, first aid training, safety and/or risk management is an asset
  • Minimum two years practical, hands-on experience in either occupational and health safety or a variety of human resources areas is an asset
