Retail Sales job focused on hitting company goals day to day.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Oceanside, CAJanuary 27, 2014
Pros: commission eligible products
Cons: sales numbers more important than actual product or fitness knowledge.
Overall not a bad job, but the constant pressure to meet sales goals hinders the value of customer satisfaction and emphasis on actual fitness and supplementation knowledge.

Great Managers- sly company
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Kelso, WAJanuary 24, 2014
Pros: great store manager and co-workers/ customers
Cons: upline management. deceptive products.
At my store, a typical day mostly involved doing plan-o-grams, cleaning and routine monthly tasks while helping customers find products and build supplement regimens for them. I learned how to sell and sell ad-ons to a current sale. In addition, I learned more about supplements and their uses than most individuals will.
My store manager was great. Honestly – more... one of the best men I know. 100% fair in all that he did and was true to his word. But above him, management turned me off towards GNC. They treat Employees as numbers and can be very degrading at times.
My co-workers were great, and I give my store manager total credit for hiring such awesome people to work with. The hardest part of my job was trying to sell products that I do not stand behind even though it was mandatory. I have a really hard time being dishonest so this wasn't "kosher" by any means. What I enjoyed most about the job was the people I worked with and the relationships with regular customers that came into the store. – less

Good opportunity for commission based pay.
Manager (Former Employee), Jacksonville, FLJanuary 23, 2014
Pros: great opportunity for earning commission
Cons: work follows you home as a manager.
Typical retail expectations. Sales goals, cleaning, organizing, paperwork, schedule expectations. I learned a lot about nutrition and helping people achieve their health goals which was also the most enjoyable part of the job.

GNC
Store Manager (Current Employee), Charlotte, NCJanuary 22, 2014
Pros: customer's satisfaction
Cons: poor management style
I enjoy the customer relationships I build from my extensive knowledge in fitness and nutrition, and seeing them return excited to tell me about their results.
There is constant management change over, and the GNC fiber creates an atmosphere of selfish employees who will do/say anything to appear better in their manager's light. Team work is almost – more... non existent. – less

Avoid at all costs
Sales Associate (Former Employee), York, PAJanuary 22, 2014
Pros: work alone
Cons: rip people off, dressing up in a suit
Job is great if you enjoy selling garbage supplements to poor people that don't know better just to make your numbers and possibly a dollar of commission here and there. False claims of promotion are used as a tactic to hold on to employees as well. very very very very very very very VERY terrible work place

Worst JOB EVER
Nutrition Specialist/Sales Associate (Former Employee), Salisbury, NCJanuary 20, 2014
Pros: sales bonuses
Cons: managment was shortbus material, sales quotas were unreasonable for a store that maybe had 12 customers a day.
The management is a joke there. The make you sale preferred items and if you don't sell enough you get in trouble. Not everyone needs triple strength fish oil if they are coming in wanting to lose weight. This company is not to be trusted. They do sell things to actually help people but there sales men/ women aren't rewarded for those kinds of sales. – more... This company has a very slow advancement rate and it is very cut throat. Work here at your own risk, if you have another opportunity take it. – less

Pros: great management and positive work environment
Cons: pay
While working at General Nutrition Center I learned many life changing lessons. I never manage the store, but I have trained many new employees. The co- coworkers there was very nice, positive, and help me became a salesmen. I enjoy when customers come back to the store and tell me about their fitness success.

Overall a fun place to work
Sales Associate/Cashier (Former Employee), Tulare, CaJanuary 10, 2014
A typical day included: helping customers, answering the phone, cleaning and organizing the store, working the register, and closing up the store. I learned a lot about dietary supplements (vitamins, weight loss, etc.) My co-workers were, for the most part, were all easy to get along with. One was a bit on the lazy side, but other than that we all got – more... along great. The hardest part of the job was probably some of the customers that would come in. They would come in with the the idea that they would take this "miracle pill" and suddenly have the body they always dreamed of, and telling them otherwise was a little tricky at times. The most enjoyable part was definitely interacting with the customers. Meeting new people, learning about them, and giving them the correct information they needed to help them with their fitness goals. – less

Great hours and pay, fun work place.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Baton Rouge, LAJanuary 8, 2014
Pros: free samples and discounts
Cons: you have to call when you go to the bathroom
Interacting with customers, the loyal customers who come only on the days you work, I've learned a lot about selling and supplements.
The management is great and keeps the enthusiasm going. The hardest part of the job nothing really I actually enjoy all the aspects besides going to the bank to deposit the money. The most enjoyable part of the job is – more... the discounts, and free samples. – less

Productive and great place to work for
Sales (Former Employee), Bethlehem, PAJanuary 8, 2014
Pros: commission
Cons: not enough hours available
The most enjoyable part of working at General Health Nutrition was hearing about the customers personal life and what they wanted to achieve. It made me very satisfied knowing I could help them with apart of their life and I was able to talk to each customer to find out their personal goal. I also enjoyed the salary and commission based pay because – more... it motivated me each day to meet my daily and monthly goals for myself and the store. My coworkers and I worked very well together and I really enjoyed going into work every day. – less

GNC Manager
RETAIL STORE MANAGER (Current Employee), Lawrenceville, GAJanuary 8, 2014
Pros: friendly staff
Cons: not enough hours.
Providing customer service to help them toward their goals. Helping customers improve on the quailty of their lives. I have learned to be a true ambassador and a team player with GNC.I have the utmost respect for my co-workers and employees. Hardest part of the job would be, staying busy at work, when theres not that much to do. I always want to achieve – more... more. I like meeting new people and providing a knowledgeable service. – less

Stressful
Senior Sales Manager (Former Employee), Hutchinson, KSJanuary 6, 2014
Pros: you get to work by yourself in a quiet environment
Cons: no breaks, standards are set way too high, too many conference calls that are in the middle of the day when you need to be with customers.
A typical day is all about meeting your sales goals. You have to meet all contests, ex: selling cellucor brand, hydroxycut, selling the most Multivitamins, ex. If you do not meet these goals you have to be on hour long conference calls wanting to know why your not meeting goals, write ups and possible termination. Its all about how much you sell and – more... what you sell. They don't care about the customer or their employees. Its very hard to keep good employees when the company is so greedy that it doesn't give raises to any employee unless youre on salary which even then is bare minimum. Plus, the company is never satisfied. It's always wanting more and more out of you. Even when youre hitting sales goals, they want you to do more. GNC expects way too much out of a normal human being and will never thank you for a job well done. – less

Fast paced enjoyable job
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Navarre, FLJanuary 5, 2014
Pros: discounted products
Cons: poor management, being the only person on the shift
A typical day at GNC would be assisting customers with their needs and education in new products or setting up dietary plans to help them achieve their goals. I learned more in depth about products and biology on a molecular level. I enjoyed using my biology background from college to help customers find the right product for them. There was no real – more... hard part of the job, except days when we received shipment and there was only one person on shift. When we received shipment we would have to restock the shelves with the hundreds of products received while tying to maintain the stores cosmetics and assist customers while being the only person on shift. The most enjoyable part of the job would be interacting with multiple customers and getting to help them find a correct product for them that will help them reach their goal. Also, the enjoyable part of the job was seeing them come back after a month and happy with the results they have seen using the product. – less
