A good place to work. A good corporate image and excellent training place
Pharmaceutical sales and marketing representative (Former Employee), NairobiNovember 13, 2014
Pros: the company ensured comfort as we work, that is, a car and allowances.
Being in the sales and marketing department, I would plan my work and go about it with minimum supervision and give reports every Friday. This gave me an opportunity to live a balanced life since i was responsible for my own time table. GlaxoSmithKline gave me enough training and it is the company that shaped my work ethics to date. It was exciting – more... working there since the company is well regarded by all healthcare professionals. The only challenge is where we had to work with low income groups who could not afford the products. – less

Definitely a Unique Experience
Chemist (Former Employee), SCNovember 8, 2014
Pros: benefits, pay
Cons: culture
A typical day at work is a very busy one. You were expected to work 45-65 hours a week as a salaried employee. At this site, you are expected to fulfill so many job functions that you are not able to focus on one aspect or interest to become a SME, in fact you are expected to be a SME on every aspect of the job in addition to others jobs. Extremely – more... challenging.

I learned that you do not have to have a degree to obtain a job and move up in the workplace.
Management..... a work in progress definitely.

The hardest part of the job was lack of effective communication throughout the site and the fact that the cafeteria only provided vending machines and sodas. I had to drive 10-15 minutes to get lunch everyday and go back to work. I was hired as a Chemist and the job description did not match the job expectation.

Co-workers at the site were ...... A lot of employees left the site while I was employed there. I did met some nice individuals.

I most enjoyed being a coach, leader, enthusiast for my immediate team. I enjoyed training others and working with Technical Engineers for method improvement. I enjoyed bringing the positivity into the workplace and inspiring others to accomplish goals and challenge themselves. – less

Very productive work place and positive work environment
Housekeeping Cleaner (Former Employee), King of Prussia, PANovember 7, 2014
Pros: great learning experiene
Fun place to work very detail typical days work was to prepare your station and equipment for your daily duties.Double gowning before entering clean area was very interesting you had to make sure every thing was put on in a careful way not to bring germs into the cleanroom .Signing of log books before entering and leaving the room sanitized all surface – more... areas. Working for GlaxoSmithKline I learned to be very focused and alert because making mistakes was not welcome you had to be very on point.
My co-workers where great team players if we get behind we would help each other .Management was easy to talk to and they would try to help you with any problem they could very professional. the most enjoyable part was knowing that I played a important part of the company. – less

Competitive Pharmaceutical Company
Supervisor, Oncology/Proj. Mgr. (Current Employee), Collegeville, PANovember 2, 2014
Pros: flexible, team members, benefits
Cons: overtime often due to deliverables
Good company benefits and average workday. However, overtime is required often due to compound deliverables. Co-workers are team players. We have constant change to SOPs, FDA Rules and MHRA audits and requirements. Multi-tasking keeps our staff up-to-date on process improvements, SOPs and department guidelines.

Terrible
admin (Former Employee), essexOctober 20, 2014
Pros: short days, good pay
Cons: no work, bullying, lack of managerial presence
Worked there for 5 months and they were the most boring months of my life. From day 1 there was no training, no manager told me about lunch, breaks, finish times etc. I literally sat there wiggling my mouse for 7.5 hours. Bullying seems the norm as no managers address the situation. I offered to do any work at all but managers seemed happy for me to – more... sit there doing nothing. – less

A very good company loosing their pedigree
Respiratory Specialty Representative (Current Employee), West Central PennsylvaniaOctober 15, 2014
Pros: a great product line, supported by a great sales force.
Cons: a lack of corporate direction and leadership.
GlaxoSmithKline is a great company that has fallen on very difficult times. Due to mistakes made by our Management, we are now under a very repressive CIA agreement which makes our job, interactions with our customers and any hope of advancement very bleak. My co-workers are some of the best people that I have ever encountered. They are motivated, hard – more... working and holding up extrodinarly well in an almost impossible situation. Our first line managers are likewise trying to do the best job they can in an organization that is hostile to its own sales force, and very structured.
The best part of the job, without a doubt, are my offices and the doctors I call on and work with daily. They are fantastic. My teammates at GSK likewise make this job fun and very entertaining. They are some of the best people I have ever met.
The worst part of this job is the hostile atmosphere engendered by our upper management. Their obvious disdain and distrust of their own sales force has made this job much more difficult than it ever should be. I simply can't believe that a corporate culture needs to be this adversarial. That is why I have decided to work towards a new job with a new company. – less

National Sales Manager (Current Employee), MumbaiOctober 7, 2014
Pros: security
Cons: long hiatus for vertical growth.
Growth opportunity is limited in marketing & sales at the senior level cos' of saturation. Every thing else is very good.
