Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto is a place where men, women, teens and children living with cancer, along with family and friends, can join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Gilda’s Club also welcomes long-term cancer survivors and those who have lost someone to cancer. Free of charge, Gilda’s Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social activities in a non-residential, home-like setting. The Gilda’s Club philosophy is based on the belief that a diagnosis of cancer affects the whole family, as well as friends, and that no one should have to face cancer alone.

Part Time Contract Program Coordinator
Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto is seeking an individual to work part time to support the ongoing components of the Noogieland Children’s Program, specifically for Super Saturday programs (1 Saturday per month approx)

-Thoroughly Understand the Gilda’s Club Program and Philosophy
-Supervise Students engaged in placements within the program
-Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in the training, and appointment of program volunteers
-Understand the roles and contributions of all those involved in the Gilda’s Club Program
-Facilitate Support Groups and recreational-based programs
-Participate in as much as possible in community activities and clubhouse functions
-Keep the Coordinator, Children and Youth Programs appraised of any program related issues relevant to the functioning of the organization

Noogieland Specific Responsibilities
-Communicate with parents and caregivers about their experience with cancer
-Assess the appropriateness of group participation at Gilda’s or need for referral to other resources in the community
-Communicate with parents and/or caregivers about the offerings of the Noogieland Children’s Program and of the benefits the Gilda’s Club Program may have for their whole family
-Use working knowledge and experience of written resources for families touched by cancer and manage the Noogieland lending library
-Promote communication about cancer and the children’s experiences in the group
-Recognize signs that suggest a child or other family member might benefit from a referral
-Communicate group process and content appropriately with parents and/or guardians
-Model and encourage confidentiality
-Plans and coordinates seasonal parties and other activities for children and families throughout the year
-Assists in the planning and execution of special program events
-Maintain and promote an atmosphere of safety within Noogieland
-Adhere to the program guidelines
-Maintain open communication with supervisor and program team and participate in regular facilitator supervision meetings

-Child Life Education and/or Experience, BA in ECE, Social Sciences, or related field and/or a minimum of four years experience working with children and families
-Experience working with children and families who are living with cancer
-Creatively driven to provide age appropriate and therapeutic activities
-A good listener for children and adults
-A hard worker with a high energy level
-A motivated self-starter of integrity who is committed to service and excellence.
-A team player
-Emotionally mature and self-confident, with professional demeanor, sound judgment and a great sense of humor
