Location: Three Point Motors Victoria

Position: Accounting Assistant

Reports to: GAIN-Vi Group Controller and General Manager

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm with ½ hour lunch break. As accounting positions may require you to come in early or stay late, time in lieu will be given for hours approved by your manager. This position will be on contract to cover a maternity leave, but could lead to full time permanent employment.

Salary: $33,000 per year, increases after a three month probationary period

Job Description:

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for working with the Controller to provide accounting support to our sales, service and parts departments by managing the administration of the cash report process. This position provides an excellent opportunity to acquire and/or exercise a broad range of accounting skills and knowledge as the automotive industry is very diverse and interesting. Success in this position depends on superior organization and time management, as well as exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and prepare the daily cash report
  • Reconcile credit card and other cash clearing accounts daily
  • Prepare daily bank deposit
  • Post account receivable payments
  • Prepare account receivable statements
  • Monitoring all trade receivables to ensure timely collection
  • Coding all payables to correct accounts and ensuring payment to all vendors are on time
  • Reconciling monthly vendor statements
  • Recording incoming inventory
  • Requesting and preparation of cheques
  • Liaise with managers in the dealership and support them in their accounting needs
  • Maintain schedules and provide various reports to GAIN-Vi Group Controller
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and accounting activities
  • Maintain up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support accounting and financial records
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization’s procedures and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with preparation for any audits or independent reviews with support from the

GAIN-Vi Group Controller

  • Assist in maintaining and improving policy and procedure documentation for complex financial and accounting issues

Qualifications:

  • At minimum of 1 year of accounts payable/receivable/cash experience
  • General understanding of computerized accounting systems (ADP or Reynolds an asset)
  • Well-developed analytical abilities in order to consistently meet high standards of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Excel and Word)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Automotive dealership experience would be an asset
  • Assertive and comfortable communicating with various types of individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Overtime as required to meet deadlines (time in lieu given)
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other accountants and accounting support staff
  • Ability to work in a structured work environment within GAIN-Vi that will use an individual’s talents, strengths and weaknesses for the best possible result within the GAIN-Vi group
