Gerbil Meets Mouse Publishing is a brand-new children’s book publishing company located in Barrie, Ontario. The publishing house is looking for dynamic and motivated illustrator(s) to join our growing team of artists.

The illustrator will be responsible for taking on selected book projects completing interior illustrations. We are not necessarily looking for college or university graduates in this field, but rather individuals with artistic talent that stand out.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Follow the storyline and basic guidelines from the publisher in regards to illustrations that are expected.
  • Provide proofs and sketches to publisher prior to completing final piece.
  • Day-to-day communication with the publisher to ensure project is being completed in a timely/expected manner.
  • Produce whole-page and small illustrations; medium is to be negotiated with publisher.
  • Complete project on a deadline pre-determined.
  • Strong individual who is willing to work independently.
  • You may also be asked to participate in pre and post-publication marketing (Interviews, signings, etc.).


  • Must provide own artistic materials.
  • Own transportation to-and-from meetings with the publisher.
  • Must have own work space.
  • Detail-oriented and outgoing.
  • Compensation will be provided in the form of a pre-determined royalty that is well-above industry standard.
