Canada Summer Job for students aged 15 - 30 (inclusive). Must have been in school last term and be planning to return to school in the fall.

May 13 - August 31, $12.50/hr. (35 hrs. /week)

The Stewards of the Strait Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating community engagement with the Stewards of the Strait program (where people take pledges to care for the marine environment related to activities - Beachwalkers pledge, Boaters pledge, etc.) during the summer and for promoting the marine environment of the Georgia Strait at community and special events.

Stewards of the Strait Outreach - To interact with the public to get them to commit to being a Steward of the Strait by taking a stewardship pledge and to add this information to our database and the Georgia Strait Communities Atlas.

To travel to and attend special events throughout the region (off-Island travel required). To speak with people about the Georgia Strait region and help them to identify how they can be active stewards of their local marine environment.
To capture video clips of people talking about their passion for the Georgia Strait, visions for the future of the region to add to GSA's website and social media pages, use them to tell a story about GSA's summer outreach to increase GSA's social media presence/profile, and expand the reach of the organization.
To add people who have taken a stewardship pledge to the Georgia Strait Communities Atlas, as well as include areas people identify as being of concern or that they are passionate about. Add these contacts to our main Salesforce contact database and send out follow up emails along with links to their information to keep them engaged.
Recruit and train volunteers to help with public outreach and engagement and talking with people about GSA and our issues. Track volunteer involvement in our database.

Marketing - To promote GSA at community events by helping people feel connected to the Strait and giving people information about actions they can take to become a steward of the Strait.
Help to update content of the Stewards of the Strait materials prior to summer outreach so it is fresh and user friendly, as well as update the graphics and content to GSA's website.

Promote GSA activities and presence at various events over the summer through media advisories, releases and letters to the editor, and posts to GSA's social media pages.
Promote GSA's mission and engage with people via GSA's social media tools - Facebook, Twitter, Blogs - share information about marine stewardship and where the team will be as well as pictures and video from summer outreach.
Promote ways that people or businesses can support Georgia Strait Alliance: Individual donations; Business Partners Program; Strait Profits program.
To provide children's activities along with the outreach to engage children and promote interest in the marine environment.

Research & Program Support - To help us to provide timely information to interested citizens and/or to help gather information to make a strategic decision regarding an emerging issue.

Assist with requests for information from the public - send out GSA materials or direct people to other organizations for information.
Background research on community issues of concern at scheduled community outreach events.
Research for program staff as required when more information is needed to make an informed/strategic decision regarding our position on an issue.
Assist with general administrative duties as required: Answering phone and passing on messages to other staff; entering relevant information into our membership/volunteer database; keeping the office fresh, neat and orderly.

Special Requirements:
A valid driver's license and use of a reliable vehicle is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Some post secondary education (University or College).
Experience using MS Office programs.
Comfort with social media and online tools
Training or experience in local natural world and marine life, an asset.
First Aid training, an asset.
Good communication skills - verbal and written.
Ability to organize work and time effectively.
Neat and clean personal presentation.
A strong interest in natural environment of the Strait of Georgia.
