Pros: 9/80 work schedule
Cons: unpaid ot, benefits slipping every year, vacation taken away, 1% pay raises
I'm not sure about all GD locations, but GD-AIS in Pittsfield, MA went from being a great place to work about 10 yrs ago, to horrible under a new VP that took over around 2006, who just left a few months back to go ruin SAIC now... And the moral in that company is low, very low.
I'm sure it has something to do with being site specific, because there – more... isn't much for work in the Berkshires but employees had PTO (vacation and sick time) as well as floating holidays taken away, raises are minimal, if you even get one... from below 1% to maybe, if you're lucky, 1.5%, etc.. if you work OT there, you don't get paid OT unless you work a minimum of 9 hours (to get 1hr paid). If you go to other GD sites tow work and you all work 50hrs that week. I would get paid for 2 hours, yet employees at the other site would get paid for 10. Most management completely does not have your back either.
They lie to younger college grads to get them in there, then take away. They're pushing older, seasoned employees out the door basically. Will put write ups in the local paper how they're going to hire 500 people over the next 5 yrs yet, don't mention the continuous layoffs. It's an ok place to start your, but that's about it... Longevity there will suck the life out of you... ask the 1000+ people that work there... minus management of course. I spent over a decade there hoping things would get better and realized it will never get better. Horrible environment altogether. – less
