Pros: paid lunch hour, benefits, salary

Garda's airport division has some great benefits such as high salary, good working conditions and benefits but lacks any proper management of employees.

Challenging and growing experience
Security Screening Officer (Former Employee), Ottawa, ONMay 27, 2014
A typical day at work would consist of screening passengers and their belongings. Most days can be consistent and productive however some can be challenging. My experience at Garda has taught me how to be patient, resilient and poise. The hardest part would be to deal with unconventional situations that required my attention in various aspects. However, – more... I had enjoyed the discipline it has instructed upon me. Management and co-workers were a part of a close team dynamic. – less

Pros: flexible job environment
Cons: rough time when work outside
Totally an energetic one. they try to keep details in each every things. Could able to understand about the security/guard culture. And even though that was a temporary one monetary benefit was high.

Garda
Security Agent (Current Employee), Edmonton, ABDecember 5, 2013
The reason I wish to leave, is because of the lack of organization.
I worked 5 twelve hour shifts in a show with two days off. Within those two days I was off, Garda called at 1am, and 3am about shift changes.
I had to wait 3 months before I could get two shirts to call my own, I have yet to get a stab proof vest.

Gloves, a duty belt, and boots were – more... not provided, I had to use my own.
No pays have been consistent to date. I have been short of hours paid.

I did work with good people on site, and I was glad to put my skills to work. – less

we always have fun at work, sharing food by keeping focus on the job
Screening Officer (Current Employee), Edmonton, ABOctober 17, 2013
A day at work, I always learned that job is well done when all workers are working together as a team. Considering the time given to do the job as a team, and each of us paying their part. No matter how harder a job could be but if everyone is working hard, that makes the job easy and enjoyable

Detention Agent (Current Employee), Montréal, QCJune 11, 2013
Pros: diversity of tasks performed daily and pride in helping people
Cons: last minute schedule changes, not being able to plan home life
Every day is different and you need to be awake and aware at all times.
I honed my skills of thinking on my feet and problem solving.
Management is opened to staff input and comments.
My co-workers are as culturally diverse as the clients we serve.
Hardest part of the job is the scattered hours.
Most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that you get – more... to help people solve their challenges. – less

Enjoyable experience with great passenger interaction
Screening Officer (Current Employee), Winnipeg, MBFebruary 25, 2013
Pros: paid breaks
Cons: early hours
A typical day at work would consist of screening passengers and their belongings. I have learnt many valuable skills such as excellent customer service and extreme attention to detail. I enjoy my job however the management team is quite weak. I enjoy the interaction with my co-workers as what we do is a team effort. The hardest part of my is working – more... very early hours of the day and still being completley aware of the surroundings. With Security you must be vigilant at all times. The most enjoyable aspect of my job is meeting a wide variety people on a daily basis. You never know who you will run into. – less

Fun workplace with great people
Armed Guard Team Leader (Current Employee), Toronto, ONFebruary 10, 2013
Pros: great salary
Cons: long hours
Co-workers are really nice and management is very helpful. The most enjoyable part of the job is traveling and meeting new people. It is not a regular 9 to 5 job; you have a specific start time but due to many factors such as traffic and weather condition you never know what time you will finish.

Big company.
Pre-board Screening Officer Level 3 (Former Employee), Edmonton, ABJanuary 25, 2013
Again, it's a security company contracted by CATSA for pre board screeing in an airport. It should not be contracted out because it is again about customer service and security has little to do with the job.

Pros: benefits, lots of ot you can sign up for
Cons: lots of rude older women on the am shift....watch out!!!
Good benefits, management could be worse, the pay is ok I wish it was better, everything is seniority based ex. Shift bids...vac bids...the hours are horrible and there are a lot of rotten apples who are still employed because of the union.
