Shift Work - Working Various Areas
Front Desk Security Officer (Former Employee), Fort McMurray, AB – April 21, 2013
Pros: good pay
Cons: long shifts
I worked in the west gate trailer, where I would do typical admin work, but I also got to work out in the field and in camp!
I learned that I could handle 12 hour shifts, and keep myself busy even on very slow nights.
Management and co-workers were constantly changing.
Hardest part of the job was wearing the uniform, because It was a dress shirt and – more... dress pants - on an oil site.
Most enjoyable part of the job was meeting new people from different companies, and learning a lot about the plant. – less

The variety of duties made the shifts go by rather quickly.
Housing Security Officer (Former Employee), Fort McMurray, AB – November 12, 2012
Pros: the positive attitude of the team.
Cons: maybe the long shift work--12 hr. but, i really had no problem with them.
My duties kept me quite busy and the reporting at the end of each shift completed the time. My co-workers were excellent to work with and we were definitely a team.

An Outstanding Security Company with a highly Professional Management
Security Guard (Current Employee), Calgary, AB – October 6, 2012
Pros: supportive company to work for
Cons: n/a
As a Garda Security employee, every shift we take is a typical day at work, we continue to work responsibly and learn from our everyday experience. With a Good management around us, we are able to perform our tasks and duties very well. Every employee or colleague of the agency have different background, points of view and personality, but through Garda – more... we are able to set aside our differences and work together as a team to attain our goals regarding our duty and adhere to the mission and vision of the company. – less

Garda cares about their security guards and succeeding in business
Scheduling Clerk (Current Employee), Winnipeg, Mb – October 3, 2012
Pros: a lot of bought lunches!
Cons: trying to find guards for an event at the last minute can be challenging.
A typical day would be finding guards to cover open shifts and last minute bookoffs. I also create schedules 1 month at a time and distribute to all guards.
Management has changed 3 times since I've been there so I can't comment on them.
My co-workers are friendly and fun.
The hardest part of the job is when there aren't enough shifts to go around so – more... some guards can be quite upset if I have no where to send them.
The most enjoyable part of this job is when I make the guards happy with what I have available for them. They are incredibly grateful. – less

organized, helpful, u feel like home at work, favorable.
security officer (Former Employee), Calgary, AB – August 2, 2012
Pros: all benefits and overtime wages above regular hours.
Cons: nothing serious
-i couldn't have any typical day at work.
-i learned a lot from my previous job like how to manage, dealing with different peoples, handle a worst situation, prepared yourself if worst comes to worst, Assessing safety hazards and maintenance issues, manage the crowd on special occasions.
-management was so good, cooperative, helpful and friendly.
-co-workers – more... were also cooperative, friendly and we always work like a family.
-because of cooperative management and friendly co-worker i never have any hard time on job.
-always enjoying my job, time passed very fast. – less

interesting environment
Agent de sécurité (Current Employee), Ottawa,ON – April 10, 2012
Pros: working with good people, learn technics, procedures
Cons: salary and lack of hours
Its interesting, because you never know how your shift will be going, also it all depends on which post or site you will be placed.
I've learned to think about my safety first, and my fellow agents but also how to react to certain situations, like suicide attemp, cardiac arrest, violent person, crisis preventions,etc...

The hardest part of my job was when – more... i needed to put my own self aside to be able to help someone else, because you wanna be there for them and tell them how you think, but as an agent you have to separate the two's to be able to give the right help as needed.
The most enjoyable part of my job was and is when at the end of my day,I know i made a difference in helping someone that needed my attention and help. – less

Productive, interesting workplace with great opportunities
Security Guard (Current Employee), Toronto, On. – March 27, 2012
Pros: hour flexibility
Cons: long hours
Daily activities include monitoring cameras, patrolling premises, and making sure entrances and exits are locked. I learned to work as a team, and independently, as well as how security can prevent crime, and could help in case of a fire or an alarm. The people I work with are great, mainly work alone, but sometimes with individuals who are motivated – more... and help represent Garda to its fullest. Hardest part of the job would be standing for 12 hour shifts. Most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that safety and security is provided, being part of the team is also one of the best things about the job. – less
