The company's reputation for accuracy took a hit in 2012 when its polling showed Republican US Presidential contender Mitt Romney with a significant lead among likely voters just 10 days before the November 6  US Presidential election and slightly ahead of the incumbent (Barack Obama) on the eve of the election. Obama won the election by more than 3 percentage points prompting Gallup to reexamine its modeling data and presuppositions.
