Hands on learning, opportunity for advancement and education
Process Improvement Specialist (Former Employee), wauwatosa, wi – January 30, 2013
Pros: education, coaching
Cons: inflexible - lack of work/life balance, expectation of hours
A typical day is very diversified. Many projects happening at the same time creating networking opportunities. Hardest part of the job is understanding the internal acronyms and the overall GE Culture. Great place to work and have the opportunity to network and learn.

GE Healthcare
Field Service Engineer, Ultrasound (Current Employee), Denver, CO – January 20, 2013
Pros: good pay
Cons: benefits are still offered but covers less, no pension plan for new hires, long hours the employe expectation higher than industry.
GE is unlike any other company I've worked for in my carear in healthcare. In the beginning the job was actually very pleasurable and I looked forward to everyday. Customer service was always paramount across the board. Currently things are not as enjoyable as with most economic hard times things change as the business model adjusts to meet the environment. – more... I survived all the attrition at a heavy cost as being the only FE in an area that has been staffed by four FTE's can change your outlook on your job and what you need as an individual. Covering three Western states gives you perspective on your value and career path choices. Over all GE is still an excellant Company, manufacturing very high quality competitive durable medical devices. They will always go the extra mile to make every customer satisfied. Size doesn't matter smallest to the biggest you will get the value GE is known for. The area as described poses some very real challenges especially staffing. It usually becomes to much for most people to handle. Quality of life is somewhere the job has room for improvement. Field Service jobs ingeneral are very demanding on personel requiring extended travel continuos training, many nights away from home and family. If you get satisfaction for working on high tech equipment and don't mind going the extra mile. Benefits have until recently been the best in the industry, currently they are minimal offerings with high deductibles and higher month employe contributions. The Pension plan has been eliminate for new hires. – less

Awful hostile place to work
Project Manager (Current Employee), Amersham – January 16, 2013
Pros: pay ok, share program, money towards gym membership
Cons: workload, culture, disrespect for life outside work
Typical day at work is 80% on making financial targets versus 20% on core competency (IT or insert any other role). Leadership extremely risk averse, running scared on cost, timescales & quality. This is not the place for creativity or innovation unless lucky enough to work in GRC.

Bullying & hostile behavior rewarded with awards and/or promotion. – more... Experienced so much trauma as part of day job, domestic stress no longer registers.

Expect to receive 200+ hostile emails per day about cost, timescales or quality, your immediate manager to be ok but constrained as you are.

Don't expect a huge amount of career progression unless joining GE on graduate program. You may get thrown a bone (training) if you play nice.

Pay is ok for local area. Good point is GE big company & in theory possible to move internally. – less

Mindless, corporate thinking
Support Analyst (Former Employee), Seattle, WA – January 7, 2013
Pros: intelligent, caring people to work with.
Cons: bad executive management, sunsetting of main software product.
Direct management (supervisors) had a good grasp of what was needed and they tried to give upper management what THEY wanted.

Contract Job through Robert Half Technology
Consultant (Former Employee), Salt Lake City, Utah – January 2, 2013
Pros: professional working environment
Cons: unprofessional working ethics from other employees.
This position was a joke. Done by Robert Half Technology and Compucom as the staffing agencies. There was no communication that I was going to even be attending a position at the Murray site. And then the un-professionalism of staff that worked for GE.
I did learn a lot on my own because I was told things like " We aren't going to teach you these steps – more... to re-image because I was a sit in for 2 months as a contractor.
Overall Robert Half Tech is okay for staffing but I would not recommend. They lied about the contract in the first place and had an excuse that never really matched up with what the position was for. It payed well for the position but to get paid was a joke also. – less

Great company
Field Engineer (X-ray) (Current Employee), Houston, TX – December 31, 2012
Pros: training, benefits, coworkers
Cons: salary, raises
Great company to work for. Compensation is the issue. The hardest part of the job would be dealing face to face with an unhappy customer. Its not really hard, but always a challenge to cool them down. On the other hand the most rewarding part of the job would be providing great service and pleasing the customer. It's alwasy nice when you walk away and – more... the customer has a smile on their face. GE provides great training, and now I have knowledge on a variety of different GE imaging systems. – less

Typical large corporate job
Systems Scientist (Current Employee), Waukesha, WI – December 27, 2012
Pros: brand name, hours
Cons: cafeteria, company philosophy
Find a mentor and work hard during your first few years. Compensation is not bad, but a large majority of employees (especially the ones who are not self-motivated) are frustrated.
