Job Summary:
The Manager of Engineering Services is responsible for providing technical and operational expertise for engineering and detail design of all mining and construction projects from a global perspective .

Primary duties include managing and developing project design solutions, preparing reports and design specifications, reviewing and approving calculations, developing project budgets/schedules and conducting and interpreting technical analysis or survey and field data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible for the use of all safety equipment according to Company rules and applicable legislation and ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment


  • Liaising with operations to define project requirements
  • Attending proposal development meetings to ascertain potential engineering services required
  • Directing and developing safe and constructible details designs to achieve project goals
  • Developing and reviewing project construction methodologies, specifications, procedures and calculation briefs.
  • Planning and directing installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of hoisting facilities, shaft sinking and underground mining equipment
  • Developing, reviewing and certifying installation of commissioning plans and document
  • Developing maintenance programs in line with applicable governing bodies and industry best practices
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships and provide solutions for project specific requirements
  • Collaborating with clients as a senior discipline engineer for AMC
  • Providing alternative engineering solutions to clients as conceptual stages
  • Reviewing/preparing engineering budgets, schedules and contracts
  • Establishing quality control and quality assurance procedures and monitoring programs
  • Developing QA/QC manual for engineering services
  • Establish quality systems and checklists
  • Developing accurate, detailed designs to support technical requirements of field and operations group
  • Reviewing, certifying and assigning engineering designs
  • Continuing development of expertise within the engineering services group
  • Researching and developing initiatives and product improvements
  • Determining project needs and propose innovative industry solutions
  • Leading and developing designs to improve safety and performance
  • Reviewing and evaluating research and development initiatives
  • Presenting innovative solutions for funding approval

  • Fiscal Authority: Level of spending authority up to a maximum of $250,000

Working Conditions, Physical and Mental Demands:
Working Conditions:

  • Occasionally exposed to factors such as extreme temperatures, fumes, risk of accidents when working in the field

Physical Demands:

  • Almost continuously sitting in the same spot or standing/walking
  • Frequent requirement to lift/handle material or equipment of moderate weight
  • Occasionally exposed to strenuous and adverse activities when working in the field

Physical Environment:

  • Occasional exposure to factors such as extreme temperatures, moving machinery, noise, risk of accidents and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort

Sensory Attention:

  • Regular requirement to stay focused when reviewing or approving concepts and designs where a miscue could result in a catastrophic failure or a fatality

Mental Demands:

  • Prioritizing and reassigning deliverables and mutli tasking to ensure that project/operational needs are attained
  • Travel for extended periods of time on short notice
  • Managing the strain of working in multiple time zo

Education And Work Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering, P.Eng in Ontario Minimum 10 years’ experience required

  • Knowledge of mining and underground construction

  • Ability to effectively liaise with all levels of management
  • Project management skills

Position Relationships:

  • Reports to: Senior Vice President
  • Direct Reports: Project Engineer Managers, Senior Engineering Disciplines, Senior and Intermediate Designers, Engineers in Training, Document Control
  • Provides guidance and support to direct reports
  • Works closely with Operation Managers, estimating groups and clients
  • Maintains contact with hoist and control suppliers, mobile and raisebore shops
