We are looking for a diesel truck mechanic, for an afternoon/evening shift, that will diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor truck and trailer equipment. This position demands a specialist in the field that will perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner.
Salary based on experience, base $21/hr
-Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of:
Engines (gas and diesel
Power train to include differentials, transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, fuel injections systems, drive shafts, PTO's and wheel ends, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering systems, Refrigeration systems, Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors, breaks, etc., Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system etc., Brake systems including ABS, Suspension systems (spring and air).
-Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
-Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
-Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
-Maintain work area appearance and safety
-Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
-Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
-Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment and machinery, adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
-Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
-Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges
-Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices
-Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
-5+ years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance and diagnosis required
-High school diploma or equivalent required
-Vocational/Technical school certification required
-Specialized training and experience in the overhaul of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials) and OEM training courses required. Ozone Depletion Prevention Certification preferred
-Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, paint equipment, shop machines, and power tools) required
-Current driver's license class 5 required; Class 3 with air brake certification preferred
-Good computer skills required
-Willingness to work required schedule at the specific location or other locations in the area.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the mechanic to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The mechanic must regularly lift and /or move up to 12kg, frequently lift and/or move up to 23kg.
