Fun and productive environment with a Playstation in the lunch room
Product Expert (Former Employee), Surrey, BCOctober 27, 2013
Made sure I greeted any customer that were in my vicinity and ensured all of their shopping needs were met. When it was not busy I organized and cleaned up my department. Co-workers would split commission sales if they both helped out the customer. Their were not any hard aspects to the job. The most enjoyable was building a relation with customers – more... and having them specifically ask for you when ever they visit the store. – less

Awesome company, great values, excellent support
Product Expert (Former Employee), St. John's, NLSeptember 15, 2013
Pros: amazing incentives, treats employees very well.
Cons: retail hours, no downtime, declining payouts based on current marketing landscape
Strong corporate culture, opportunity for advancement, attainable bonuses and exceptional incentives given for top sales performers. Employee discount is awesome, and ongoing training is second to none. Commission or wage subsidy, and with changing market and more sales moving towards online, commissions and pay is dropping substantially accross multiple – more... departments. – less

Customer Service Supervisor (Former Employee), Burnaby, BCSeptember 11, 2013
I loved working at Future Shop, it is a great company with lots of room to grow and you face different challenges everyday which keeps you on your toes, which is one of the things I loved most about it.

Exciting workplace and atmosphere, over-competitive at times
Product Expert (Former Employee), Edmonton, ABSeptember 10, 2013
Pros: high-energy work environment, played into my interests, awesome staff discount, great co-workers, fantastic earning potential
Cons: odd hours, highly competitive, terrible base pay, terrible beneifts
- day to day involved cleaning, reading up on product, setting up and tearing down demos and most of all pitching sales and helping customers
- I learned I enjoy helping people learn about technology and sales is a "feast or famine" industry, either you sell a lot and get paid well or find a new job
- Management was hugely supportive of sales but sounded – more... like a broken record when it came to selling services and when chiming off the day's sales figures
- co-workers were mostly great people and awesome to work with but some were very competitive and would steal sales/ not do their fair share of cleaning and organizing to try to make more sales
- hardest part of the job was staying positive after having a customer walk after a long negotiation
- best part was seeing the satisfied smile on a customer's face after helping them pick out their dream tv or stereo – less

Not a bad place to work usually, Boxing Day got pretty rough as it is mandatory for every employee to work a 12 hour shift.

Future Shop is a great place to develop new social skills and confidence, but with flaws in managment execution .
Entertainment Associate (Former Employee), Burnaby, KingswayAugust 23, 2013
Pros: friendly environment, interact with people, fast paced, good benefits
Cons: inconsistant hours, managment neglecting employee's needs
Future Shop is known for it's great customer service and product knowledge experts. It has taught me the values on how to grow as an associate within the company and become a role model to fellow employees. It's also helped me develop my personality when interacting with customers and to fully understand there needs.

Although there have been many strong – more... assets that go along with the job, I found that the management at my particular store would under value and alienate certain individuals in particular departments. This has helped me learned from challenge and change within the work place and make me stronger through diversity. – less

Seasonal Help
Computer Sales associate (seasonal) (Former Employee), Brantford, ONAugust 21, 2013
Pros: employee discount
Cons: only seasonal
I sold computers during the holiday season. The people I worked with were very helpful and I enjoyed the job. I learned a lot of sales techniques, as well as gained a lot of knowledge about computers and other forms of technology.
The best part of the job was the social interaction with customers. Being a very outgoing social person speaking with customers – more... was something i excelled at. – less

great place to work
Computer Technician (Former Employee), whiby, ontarioAugust 19, 2013
my typical day was coming in working ok computers and helping customers with their needs. I learned there that a good work place helps you enjoy work. management was awesome they looked after you with what you needed. co-worker were awesome making sure we were all on the same page. hardest part of the job was not being able to help a customer. most – more... enjoyable part was when you see how happy a customer is when he got what he needed and not over sold. – less

Good people, just menial work
sales (Current Employee), BCJuly 30, 2013
Pros: good people (for the most part)
Cons: just a 30 unpaid break, nothing else.
it's retail, you deal with terrible customers everyday. the work is boring and there have been scares of more massive layoffs. However, it is fun to get in new products and learn about them.

Productive and fun.
Co-op Student (Former Employee), St. Catharines, ONJuly 24, 2013
Pros: working with a great staff.
Cons: it was temporary.
A typical day at work would begin with a meeting going over the sales stats and the overall goal for the day. After the meeting, each employee (myself included) would go to their department to prepare for the day. I would be pricing items or going into the back to bring out new merchandise. If something was out of place, I would alphabetize the products, – more... if necessary. I learned that behind the scenes, a lot of work goes into the look and feel of a store. The staff was always nice to me and would answer any questions that I may have had. The most enjoyable part of my day was interacting with customers and working hard until I had to leave to return back to school. – less
