Free The Children seeks an Educational Programming Coordinator to join our Youth Programming Department which develops and implements unique programming to engage youth in learning about social issues and taking action to support Free The Children’s sustainable community development work overseas as well as its local programming.

The Educational Programming Coordinator (EPC) will manage a portfolio of active schools and educators who are involved in Free The Children’s fundraising and awareness raising campaigns and activities. The EPC will be the key relationship manager for his/her portfolio of schools and is responsible for ensuring their retention and increased involvement from year-to-year.

A minimum two-year commitment is required and there are two streams of compensation for our entry level coordinator roles:

  • Housing option
  • Non-housing option

The Housing option compensation offers a base salary

  • Year 1: $20,000 plus shared accommodation included
  • Year 2: $22,000 plus shared accommodation included

The Non-Housing option compensation offers a base salary

  • Year 1: $27, 500
  • Year 2: $29, 500

There is a six (6) month probationary period, upon reaching the three (3) month period, all staff members are offered a health plan including dental and Employee Assistant Program. The position is based out of Free The Children’s International office in Toronto (233 Carlton Street). This role is perfect for a new graduate who is looking to grow and work hard for two years. Educational programming and retention:
 Work with the Manager of Educational Programming to develop strategies to drive retention and loyalty among schools and educators;
 Manage a portfolio of schools who are actively involved in Free The Children’s campaigns. Portfolios often include schools at different engagement levels and therefore require different levels of support, assistance and pro-active communication;
 Implement plans to nurture relationships with schools and educators and to retain their involvement from year-to-year as well as further engage them in fundraising and awareness raising campaigns. This might include increasing their involvement in different campaigns and activities, increasing their fundraising activities and funds raised as well as increasing the number of students involved in the club or campaigns;
 Inform your portfolio of schools and encourage their participation in new contests, campaigns and activities;
 Serve as an advisor and liaison to schools/educators and provide them with resources and support to implement Free The Children fundraisers and awareness raisers;
 Whenever needed, represent Free The Children on the frontline;
 Work with the Manager of Educational Programming to execute effective prospecting/tiering segmentation to support schools and educators while optimizing the use of resources;
 Make use of data to optimize stakeholder value;
 Analyze stakeholder behavior for pain points and improvement opportunities;
 Work with relevant Free The Children and Me to We departments to develop cross-organizational growth opportunities;
 Use success stories to share best practices and build loyalty within the educational community;
 Help to build an ongoing, organizational library of profiles with stories of schools from his/her portfolio;
 Provide ongoing feedback with the team that develops school campaigns;
 Occasionally attend and contribute to the planning and organization of Free The Children conferences, events and speaking engagements especially as they pertain to one’s portfolio of schools;
 Seek out new and improved ways to engage schools in Free The Children programming as well as to streamline key systems and processes;
 Provide assistance to the Manager of Educational Programming and the Manager of Partnerships as required in the management of high-level relationships (for example, school boards);
 Ensure he/she has a robust knowledge and expertise of Free The Children’s international development projects within the seven countries where communities are served;
 Send community reports to schools that have donated and ensure that all schools know that they may have access to these dynamic, up-to-date online community reports once donations have been sent into the office.

General and administrative:
 Actively support the Manager, Associate Director of Educational Programming, and the Director of Youth Programming;
 Prepare and provide regular reports on the status of your portfolio and activities (e.g. participation rates in a specific campaign);
 Follow-up on communication with schools with clerical duties which might include updating existing databases with the changes and the status of each contact, preparing packages;
 Track expenditures;
 Measure the impact of school actions across all programs and campaigns using both quantitative and qualitative information;
 Provide other administrative support within the department as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

 Bachelor degree preferred and some professional work experience;
 Background or professional experience in fundraising/marketing/sales is an asset;
 Passion and commitment to bringing global issues and the spirit of volunteerism the classrooms in a way that's accessible and engaging for students;
 Able to quickly develop a rapport with educators as well as inspire their cooperation and confidence;
 Strong analytical ability to leverage stakeholder insights and build effective strategies;
 Able to multi-task, work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;
 Able to engage others with exceptional oral and written communication skills;
 An ability to mingle and network at public events with professional, energetic disposition;
 Proficient use of MS Office programs – especially Word and Excel - and experience with database management (training is provided on the internal CRM system);
 Able to analyze and adjust work procedures for maximum efficiency;
 Possess the creativity and courage to challenge conventional practices and develop innovative strategies;
 A self-starter with a high level of motivation and an ability to thrive with minimal supervision;
 Able to work well as part of a team by being open minded towards the ideas and views of others, giving as well as welcoming feedback, contributing to the department’s team spirit and supporting other to succeed.;
 Positive and professional attitude;
 Interest for human and children rights issues at local, national and international level;
 Dependable to follow instructions as well as take responsibility for their actions and keep commitments;
 Willingness to carry out a range of administrative tasks;
 Drivers License an asset (Ontario G Class or equivalent);
 Must be eligible to work in Canada
