Free The Children seeks a driven and experienced Director, Digital Media who will report to the Director of Media. The candidate should have at least three years of experience working in a leadership role as part of a creative team, a strong ability to manage a complex, demanding workload, and demonstrated management capacity. The digital director will be responsible for managing one of the largest online nonprofit platforms, engaging millions each year to make positive change in the world. Also, the director will be charged with ambitious engagement and conversion goals from day one, must be fluent in strategies for web, social media, and youth engagement.

The position is based out of Free The Children’s International office in Toronto (233 Carlton Street). A minimum two-year commitment is expected. Salary is to be negotiated. There is a six (6) month probationary period, upon reaching the three (3) month period, all staff members are offered a health plan including dental and Employee Assistant Program.

- Leading development of Free The Children digital platforms:
o Strengthening and broadening overall digital strategy, including web, social media, and other properties
o Identifying and/or reviewing potential for sponsorship activations
o Advocating for social media integration within Free The Children and Me to We, influencing strategies and key outreach practices.
- Supervising digital team and working closely with web development team to ensure quality of creative output, including:
o Making key UX, visual, and design decisions and clearly explaining the reasons behind them
o Pursuing overall strategy while moving quickly to capitalize on timely opportunities
o Powerfully integrating social media with websites to deepen engagement and further measurable campaign goals
o Rigid use of analytics to inform decision making
- Managing internal relationships
o working with various internal teams to increase ability of digital platforms to help donation, sales, and activation goals
o reporting to Executive and Content Directors regularly on activities of the digital team
- Managing external relationships
o creating or providing input on large-scale sponsorship programs, executing them flawlessly, and reporting on them
o providing highly-technical yet readily understandable input and feedback
- Overseeing internal systems:
o managing interdepartmental communications to facilitate flow of updates from international projects, youth taking action in local communities, and other support
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum three years of management experience leading digital strategy
- Direct experience working with web development
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders, from youth members to high-level corporate partners.
- Strong instincts in branding, narrative, and online interactions
- High energy, flexibility, and passion for changing the world
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to passionately, respectfully advocate a chosen course of action
- Must be shamelessly idealistic.
