The role of the Senior Software Developer is to provide software development as part of new products designed and manufactured by Fortran.

The candidate's experience will include strong technical skills with key strengths in real-time software development.

Summary of Job Functions:

The successful candidate will work within a team developing high performance and sustainable traffic control and management systems, focusing on reusable components, stable interfaces, and common libraries; analyze requirements and use appropriate technologies to produce component, subsystem, and application level designs. The work will include:

  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders in order to determine their (evolving) needs
  • Document (consistent/complete) requirements, based on the needs, cost and schedule
  • Analyzing complex functions, procedures, and problems to deliver creative, logical, and effective solutions using good design principles that satisfy functional and non-functional requirements
  • Develop software solutions through supporting technical documents including interface and design specifications, coding, test plans, deployment, operation and support
  • Conduct / participate in design and code reviews, identify potential problems and performance issues, provide feedback and corrections, evaluate code compliance to standards
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution.

Candidate Must Meet The Following Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, or applicable technical or scientific discipline and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in software development for engineering applications, with in-depth knowledge and experience in the following:

  • Extensive OOP and OOD experience using C++
  • Developing real-time software in Linux
  • Experience with formal software engineering processes, including requirements management
  • Independent, performance-driven individual with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with peers, experts and stakeholders
  • Team player with excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Independent, performance-driven individual with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with peers, experts and stakeholders
  • Organized, focused and persistent - ability to meet project milestones in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • Able to communicate effectively with SMEs and have the ability to communicate complex ideas using both written and verbal skills

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NEMA/NTCIP Framework
  • Solid understanding of operating systems principles and communication protocols
  • Experience with Java/J2EE
  • Knowledge of SNMP
  • A licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario (PEO)
