General Description:

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is seeking a motivated and multitask-oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill position as Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter, reporting directly to the Journeyman Plumber Foreman. The Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter will assist with planning, installing and servicing plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. This is an hourly position and is based on shift schedule as per FMFN-Capital Projects.


  • Review blueprint and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use
  • Install, repair and maintain mainly residential with the possibility of commercial, industrial institutional or public buildings
  • Conduct general maintenance of all plumbing components including gas appliances
  • Perform furnace and heating unit repairs
  • Maintain and repair existing plumbing
  • Assist with development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules
  • Operate and maintain Plumber tools and equipment
  • Respond to service calls from community members in a timely and effective manner
  • Identify any potential issues through trouble shooting
  • Perform administrative duties such as daily log of tasks
  • Maintain records& documentation as required by FMFN
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A grade 12 diploma or GED
  • An Alberta-certified Journeyperson
  • Physical strength, stamina and agility
  • Mechanical ability
  • Ability to take direction
  • The ability to get along well with co-workers
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Dependable
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and willing to drive company vehicle
  • Must provide a clean drivers abstract
  • Ability to speak, read and write Cree and Dene is an asset
  • Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset
